I've noticed alot of people sing when you hack to help your nerves, well I've now joined your club :-)

So what do you sing? Tonight for me it was 'On my own' from Les Mis and a equine version of 'If you're happy and you know it' (poor horse!!)

Ususally something annoying because it was the last thing I heard coming out of car.,... yeaterday it was Beyonce - Best thing I never had or something... only a few lines like :D

Ipod?? Seriously- on a hack?? Well, I'd call that suicide but each to their own...

No different to having a bluetooth headset in one ear for your phone in the car :)

I only have the one ear in usually the one nearest the hedge/verge and I can hear cars coming in plenty of time, I dont have it blaring :)

Well I always end up singing the chorus to 'Billy Don't Be a Hero' :o :p
In my defence, when I was 8 and had a terrifying monster of a pony named Billy, his old rider said singing worked and someone suggested that song! So it's a habit now lol
thankfully I don't get nervous hacking anymore...

My horse seems to enjoy a bit of Foo Fighters and some Fall Out Boy - his wee ears go like radar when I start singing them lol :D

I can never think of anything good to sing and poor Saffy has twinkle, twinkle little star, saffy what a good girl you are .....
then make up lots more rubbish to go with the tune!

99 Green Bottles, or whatever was on the radio in the car on the way into the yard. Worked quite well in combatting the Killer Phessies of Doom (they hid in the hedge and jumped out at us, and made me jump just as much as the horse, which is not helpful in these matters!) on my last share horse:)

Not ever when I hack, but if I'm trying to maintain a calm, quiet canter round a course of jumps, it's Nelly the Elephant... :D

I use it as practise time :D Last week was spending hack time figuring out harmonies for a great song called Union Miners!

Tonight it was this song as I have to re-rehearse it for a gig next week and haven't sung it since that vid was made  (I'm the fat curly-haired one, not the pretty blonde - though I have thankfully lost about 4 stone since this was recorded ;))

My Lovely Horse is one of the greatest pieces of music ever written :D Neil Hannon is an absolute genius - take away the stupid (but brilliant) words and the tune/harmony is actually gorgeous... acoustic piano version!

Mines horsey horsey don't you stop (don't know the actual name!!) Or wheels on the bus. I have no idea why, I have tried singing songs I actually like to listein to, but it always comes back to those two!!! Hahahaha

When I used to hack my now retired Kizzy who was sharp & spooky it used to be a calming version of I'm the King of the Swingers from the Jungle Book & also Onward Christian Soldiers! Not sure if she enjoyed it or not.

i don't in company!
but when alone, i used to make up random words to tunes. my favourite was:
"oohhh you fecker, why must you spook?
iiiiiiiff you dont behave i'll turn ya into glue..."
She knows i wont really though ;) Well, she must know otherwise she'd stop pratting around!
I love her really :D:D

A friend up the yard is nervous and sings when she rides-trouble is she can't think of anything other than Postman Pat!! luckily the horse is young so seems to enjoy it ;) hehe

i always end up singing 'oh i do like to be beside the seaside':o occasionally on the way home i'll sing' show me the way to go home' lol:)

Oh I love 'show me the way to go home'! But I don't usually sing it when riding, more when tired and wanting to go home and to bed!

Quite often I'll sing various McFly songs.. especially Star Girl. And Glee. Or whatever is stuck in my head. Which is usually something quite odd.

I was singing christmas carols this evening :o

Then I belted out a bit of "shine [pony] shine, fill this land with the highland glory" :p

Good thing I didn't meet anyone - I'd have been sectioned!

Not any more.
Many years ago I worked in a riding centre in Mid Wales with amazing hacking over the mountains.
On my day off I took off on my own and riding through a mountain valley literally miles from anywhere Istarted singing "The hills are alive " from the Sound of Music which was popular at that time. I was on the second verse when something made me look up, and there on a ridge were several dozen hikers, eating their lunches but open mouthed at the maniac singing riding her horse...
I managed to get into a fast canter within seconds and truthfully have never sung a note on horseback ever again.....

LOL!!!!!!

No wonder... the hills are alive??? !!!!! LOL :D:D:D

Bless you :)

(sorry, can't stop gigglin')

Whatever song I have in my head at the time usually. :)

Sometimes I sing silly songs to my boy though like, 'what shall we do with the drunken sailor?' :p

"what shall we do with the naughty highland" is normally one of my favourites too... Wish I'd thought of that this evening, slightly less daft than "adeste fideles" ;)

Bob the Builder!

But with Word changes i.e.

It's a Tractor, It's a Tractor (insert scary object of choice in this bit

Will it kill us

NO IT WON'T

No it won't should be accompanied by lots of leg:-)))

I use it as practise time, too. Not sure what for, as I don't sing for a profession! I go through the musicals, some old classics like Mary Hopkins (Those were the days) or Barbara Dickson (January, February). Later ones such as Adele, some Roxette, um...anything really. Been caught out sooooo many times I'm past caring. My boss caught me practising high notes of some song the other week and barely batted an eyelid. I have a reputation, now and they all want me on kareoke, lol!

ETA: Remembered the song. It was Faryl and 'Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence (somewhere far away)', the bit where she sings, "Where ARRREEEE YOUUUUUU". I was pretty good if I do say so meself. ;)

Hehe - love this! So the kind of thing I would get caught doing! :)

As a youngster I once got reeeeallly lost out hacking, my poor pony was shattered, so I sang S Club 7's 'don't stop never give up'! Over and over and over to keep us going - it really helped!

Question - why do so many of you ride or hack out if you're scared? Why put yourselves through it?
