WHAT DO YOU THINK OF OUR REFORMED 2 YEAR OLD-PICS!

Come do you really think that she wanted an argument, who is the one who has been reading through her posts with the intention of twisting/provoking the situation.

At the end of the day it was an honest post for some advice and this is what it has turned into.

Blueberry realised there was an issue which needed addressing, she sought opinions, made an informed decision on the way forward and she is now seing an improvement.

Max will not be sold because of this nor will he be sent to a charity organisation. Blueberry is managing the situation without the need of piping or whip for example.

She was told not to breed in an earlier post....when she does decide to breed again she will of course, as she did before, consider the parents etc.

Blueberrys situation does not seem too distant from the post Zigzag mentioned above regarding the colt. Instead of Max being sent away for someone else to discipline him, Blueberry is managing the situation herself by using the experience she has gained over the years and by considering others opinions/experiences.

Now what IS the problem with that?

You need to turn him out as much as possible so he channels his energy more positively, preferably with a more dominant horse to put him in his place again. Perhaps you could put him in the school with his friend for an hour to let off steam.
And I'd also like to point out that he must have been 'mishandled and mistreated' or he wouldn't have developed such bad manners. Mishandling and mistreatment can include failure to discipline correctly when needed, in my opinion. You need to work out what consequences there will be for him when he breaks the rules, and then enforce them consistently. Consequences for biting could include shouting 'no', slapping his muzzle away, nipping his neck (simulates a bite from a horse), pulling a whisker, rattling a can full of pebbles....whatever you feel comfortable with. Remember to praise him when he isn't biting, and is doing nothing wrong - that is quite hard to do as we tend to take it for granted.
Perhaps 'working' him mentally for brief sessions each day would help stimulate and discipline him - can he wear rugs/tack/boots/load/unload/walk over tarpaulins/walk over poles/go walkies in hand/walk through streams/slalom between cones, etc. Avoid physical 'work' though - he's too young, IMO.
Hope you sort the fiend out

This is the advice you gave on the original thread. Apart from the first paragraph (ours was never kept in for more than 12 hours a day), the advice you have given is more or less word for word what I was told by another respected member on here. That member has bred horses for years, and as a result of her advice, that gleaned from books about youngsters and plain old common sense having had puppies, kittens and children, we now have a rising three-year-old with pretty good manners. He is a Section D who came to us at the age of nine months, and who has experienced pretty much everything (apart from a lot of showing) that a young horse can. His nipping is not tolerated, and that is his only fault. Having seen his parents I can honestly say that if he developed any vices, they would be due to mismanagement and not his breeding. So much of it has been common sense, and remembering that the cute fluffy foal the size of a large dog will one day be able to trample you!
