What do you wash your horses down with after riding?

As above, water with Lavender wash or as I have at the moment, the minty wash made by the same company, cant remember their name.

I use a wrung out cloth if they just have mildly sweaty armpits/ears....but yes will get a bucket and sponge out for proper sweat...I've always used the Red Rum Soothing Rinse, but I'm led to believe that it has been discontinued *sulk* so I'm not sure what I'll use this year...probably just really watered down medicated shampoo...like literally barely any, then you don't have to worry about it not getting fully rinsed out.

On a really hot day I get the hose out.

Just water. I wouldnt like to add addtional oils to the coat or take them out by washing with shampoos. They have their own natural oils which I wouldnt want to mess with.

depends.
If I have time to rinse it out - Ill pop a little shampoo into her back section (sweat bump sufferer). Usually for me its just water though.

Some swear by a little Meths.

Does yours have funny skin/scurfey or something wrong?? (Just wondering why you asked)

At the moment I have something with witch hazel and tea tree, which stinks! Don't think Maiden likes it... I like to use something "warmer" smelling in winter, such as lavender, and something "fresher" for summer like mint.

Mostly just so my horse smells nicer after getting sweaty, not so much for anything else! :)

Ooh, will have to check out this lavendar stuff! Thanks!

Though this thread has prompted me to google the red rum stuff, and you can still get it *bounce*

the lavender or mint stuff on a really hot day, makes them nice and cool. we use it when eventing. i put my arms in it if its really hot day. cools me dow :-)

I use baby bath liquid, usually supermarkets own brand. I think if its gentle enough for babies its ok for washing down horses without needing to rinse it off. Fraction of the price of horsey ones too.

I don't wash down, I walk off until they are dry.

Can't imagine needing to wash down unless they were soaked in sweat after a particularly hard ride.
