Seen a horse for sale and they said she is reasonably priced due to her making a slight noise in canter...

she is very reasonably priced for what she is... does the noise cause problems is it a pain thing? never heard of this before any advice on weather to go and see a horse like this or just look for something else?

any advice would i would be greatful!!

She does seem very cheap I must say, but it doesn't seem to affect her performance.

The vid has had the sound disabled,

but I would guess the noise is probably a snort on the outward breath. Lots of horses do this (Listen to the some of the top show jumpers). If you really like her then I would suggest you go to see her, try her out for what you want and if you like her then get her vetted. Worth a look I would think, and what a good idea to put the video on there to sell her. Let us know what you decide

It can be due to respiratory tract problems! So the noise is the horse forcing wind through the airways....... sounds sorto f like a grunt as they work.
This is generally what it means........

Usually means the horse could have laryngeal hemiplegia (paralysed larynx) or dorsal displacement of the soft palate. My boy displayed a "slight noise" and then a year later he had to have a tie back of the larynx and a hobday op.......then got an infection from it and ended up costing £7.5k!

There's already been a post about this: http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/sh...rue#Post4568080

and they comment as before I would say deffo get her fully vetted with bloods. I think the noise could be due to her being unfit. I went to try a horse I really liked from a dealer I'd bought from before, and that made a slight noise in canter but was told it was because he was very unfit. I didn't go ahead and pursue as Mum and Dad were dead against it, and I did wonder why he'd been out of work to be so unfit, but now I know if I were in that position again I probably would go ahead with a five stage vetting. High blowing is the noise a previous poster mentioned, and this is a noise that a well bred horse tends to make through the alar fold in its nostrils when being worked. No matter how close you sail to the wind and how tight your budget, NEVER, EVER forgo a full five stage vetting with bloods. It is crucial. Also get the person stood videoing you riding the horse stood next to the vendor and whilst filming you ask the question you should always ask, what vices does it have and then list them all, i.e does it buck, does it kick, does it crib bite, etc. Ask about previous vets visits and explore in detail. Get it all comitted to tape, I have seen so many of my friends duped by usavoury vendors, selling decrepid horses that shouldn't even be tacked up let alone ridden. Just make sure you do your home work and if you still wish to pursue the purchase of this horse good luck x

lol - what would bloods tell you about her airway performance whilst exercising -it'd be more useful having it 'scoped whilst exercised if its an airway obstruction - and if you're having to consider this when buying a horse I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole...
save your money and look somewhere else

5* vetting for a horse this cheap doesnt seem worth it im even more put off by some of the comments... think I might stear clear and keep looking and get something with no problems... thanks for all advice guys

A slight noise can also sometimes be described as roaring...it is mainly associated with big horses...my mare 17'3 has a paralysed left ventricle which causes her to make a noise when in faster work...had her vetted when I bought her she passed but it was noted vet said would cause her no probs...I bought her as a 7 year old 14 years ago we hunted XC SJ WH RH ODE and three weeks ago produced a beautiful colt so they are not all bad but worthy of being checked out

My horse makes a noise, she sounds like someone who has been smoking 60 a day trying to climb stairs. But she only does it when she is excited.
