Kick? Bite? Run away?

Ned doesn't do that - he uses camouflage!!
Sadly I don't have any pictures, but I wish I did!

I mucked out the field before catching him, as he was laying down and I figured I'd let him sleep. He was standing by the time I finished, so I went to grab a lead rope.

I can't have been more than 2 mins, but by the time I'd got back he was gone!!
I had a mini heart attack and went to look for him. While walking through the ponies field (the layout is: pony field-horse field) I noticed a rather large pony.
The little blighter had jumped the fence and blended in with a sea of bay ponies!! He almost got away with it too :P

Bonus picture - new rain sheet!

Love the rug :D

Mine don't do anything thankfully, I don't have the patience for horses that won't be caught!

Love the rug :)

Mine gets very snooty, walks away , the when he realises I am not giving up, runs around like something possessed , when he is bored of that he just accepts the fact that I won't give up :D

How long's he had the rainsheet? Is it properly waterproof? Only they're not a bad price and I was thinking of one for Fergs...

Mine are all a bit thick and come at the first sign of something being produced from a pocket... Polos, nuts, paper, keys...

I NEED that rug!

Mine used to come over now he sees me walks off so i follow then gallops off! So i stand there he does a couple of laps and a few bucks then stops right in front of me! The other gallops over to see me when shes in a good mood and just toddles over when shes tired:)

My pony walks away just fast enough to keep me from catching up with her without running. If I run, she bolts off. So I walk ahead of her movement & force her to change direction, either until I have her cornered or she just gives up. She's not nasty with it, so as soon as I have her trapped, the game's up ;)
My horse also walks away & I employed the same technique with her. However, she is younger & less accustomed to this than her "sister" so she sometimes gets frustrated that I know what she's going to do before she does & that I'm always one step ahead of her. Usually she shakes her head & gives up, but occasionally the frustration leads to running round the field like a maniac.. But then, eventually, she gives up anyway :p
They're in separate paddocks now due to different dietary requirements.. but when they shared a field, the pony twigged that she could set the horse off in a fit of insanity & then sit back to watch (uncaught) while I pulled my hair out trying to get the horse to put her brain back in! Clever little pain in the neck! But we still love them ;)

Puts his ears back and barges past me, occasionally turns his bum to me but gives up within minutes/as soon as a lead rope is chucked round his neck.

Naughty pony.

I usually know when mine is going to give me a little trouble as she will look up at me, then get straight down and do some furious eating. I can walk up to almost touching distance then she'll squeal and trot off. This continues, stopping and waiting for me to get close then squealing and running off until she's a bored and she'll then turn to face me with ears forward looking like an angel. I don't bother to break a sweat, it's only ever taken 5 minutes max.

If his mate is in he does nothing, if they are both out then he walks off then turns and runs. If I make a fuss of his fieldmate he soon gives up, well he can't let someone else have his carrot :D. Annoyingly he usually ambles towards my daughter when she goes to catch him

Where I used to keep him, my old pony would stand in the middle of the pond, up to his belly in water eating the bullrushes and refuse to come out.

About once a year (usually because of grass or a few days of hard work) mine will "casually" walk away pretending he hasn't seen me. It's pretty half hearted, though; he stops as soon as he knows he's been rumbled :p

What a fab rug! :D
My late gelding was a nightmare to catch, I spent most of our 7 years together following him around the field with a headcollar... if he was in an active mood he would wait until I was within a few metres and then "pop over" the fence / 5 bar gate to the next field, and repeat.
But his go-to move was to just run round and round the field, taking down anything that got in his way (including post and rail!!!!) - he was so destructive!

Boyo has been upgraded to ASBO Boy after he bulldozed through his electric fencing yesterday, then refused to be caught! He just trotted away from me frantically snatching mouthfuls of lush grass when he got the chance. He soon gave up though and let me catch him, perhaps 5 minutes spent? Not bad for a boy on restricted grazing due to lammi fattie issues. I just kept him moving and kept showing him the polos ;)

When it is cold and miserable mine comes to call but now the weather is better and the grass is growing she is utilising superpowers to evade capture. Her favourite power is shape shifting. I call the name if my 16hh bay sport horse and I am greeted by a 13.2hh fjord.

(Sadly for both of them I usually find the 16hh bay lurking in the far corner of the field and she comes in for a feed and haynet and the very obliging fjord stays out) I haven't been fooled yet! But they live in hope!

He only wore it for about 5mins, so not really sure how well it'll stand up to wear, but it seems pretty good :)

for others who asked about the rug :)

She waits until I've walked across the field and am about to reach out to grab her headcollar then she bolts flat out to the other end of field

Bud walks round in circles around me and will keep going. Trick is to go out and poo pick first, when he comes over to say hello give him a scratch and a sugar cube then walk away. He then follows you to the gate so headcollar goes on. Tada! Unless it's raining or cold then he's screaming at the gate for me to hurry up. Such a diva :)

Dolly 99% of the time comes running to daughter the minute she sees her.

Every once in a while, she'll stand still and make daughter go to her. That's the worst it usually gets.

However there was this one time when there was a big muddle puddle between Dolly and Daughter - Dolly came bombing it to daughter and then slammed the brakes on at the start of the muddy puddle, which then did a tidal wave over daughter!!!! PMSL!!!!!

I've NEVER seen Dolly look so happy with herself! Daughter was just a blanket of mud! :p

Laughing alone at my desk typing this as we speak!!! :D:D:D

Sometimes Kitty will come to me :D(albeit at her own leisurely pace) other times she will stop grazing and quite literally watch me walk down to the bottom of the field to get her and occasionally as I reach the bottom she will gallop back up to the top:rolleyes:

basically one way or another she will come up with a game to play before being caught.

Peggy comes to call every time unless led flat out sunning herself, in which case I have to wait

Hilarious!!!:D:p

Nothing :D:p:D:D

She's brilliant girl and almost aways comes running as soon as I call her, occasionally I have to shout several times. I usually reward with mint/apple/carrot and always have done which I've found encourages them to come. It also helps she knows she's coming in for her dinner and she's a greedy mare!!:eek::eek:

My sister's tb comes fine most of the time then occasionally simply won't get caught - usually ends up with him being chased away round the field till he turns round and almost says 'don't like this anymore' then he's an angel for another few months

My boy waits for me to walk miles to get him then as I get close gallops past me & waits for me at the gate!! It's a game but so annoying! Thankfully he doesn't do it everyday!!

Deano point blank ignores me calling his name repeatedly until I am right beside him, then he does a big exagerated double take as if to say - 'Mum! I didn't know you were here! Why didn't you shout...??' But he catches fine thank goodness.
There is a very wise old mare on our yard who wades out to the deepest, muddiest, boggiest bit of the field and stands there smirking at you. Really hope she doesn't start giving Deano ideas

When my girl was at stud there was a steam running through the field and really, really boggy around it - I went in right up to my knee :eek:
One day she got herself on the otherside of the stream, was adamant that she was stuck and couldn't possibly work out how to get back across until I was almost across then she just jumped it - after I had sunk halfway in the stuff myself :mad::mad::mad::mad:

mines too stupid to think about running away!!!

im a giant carrot in her eyes - and i provide dinner so she hounds me!

p.s rug link pls :D

Mine's normally very good and comes when I call her, but if she's not keen on the idea of coming in she'll go and graze with the Witch Horse* cos she knows that I won't go in too close.

*Nasty piece of work, has form for charging at people and/or kicking, as in a double barrel to the head . Fortunately she doesn't do it often, but when she does it scares the cr@p out of me and one or two others! I might look faintly ridiculous wearing my riding hat in the field but I don't care!
