My grandmother had Scotties. Dad grew up with them although I don't remember him mentioning them. Gran always said they were perfect gentleman!

A lady I was camped next door to last year had a Springer. She didn't seem that enamored with it and said their last dog was a Lab which had bought up her two boys 😊

GBGV (depending on the breeding), Newfie, Papillon, Golden Retriever.

American Bullies are great with children too (I'm kidding, I'm kidding...)
I love my GBGV but I wouldn't recommend the breed to a family with small children. They are big dogs on little legs, incredibly strong when they want to be, stubborn and very long tails at perfect eye height for a small child 😂 Mine is definitely child-friendly, he's a jolly happy dog and loves everyone, but he could definitely take anyone under 8 stone out from the ankles if he saw a squirrel behind them 😂

He sounds fun 😂 I love those but don't think I've met many. Not many dogs I don't love, everytime I see a thread like this I add more dogs to my own list.

My friend is going to meet a 4 year old female schnauzer mix tomorrow through a rehoming centre, apparently she's been a pet surrendered due to ill health and is currently in foster with a family and is used to living with children . She looks good on paper so fingers crossed. She is much more sensible than me if there's any reservations she won't take her.

Unlike me, who adopted a dog I suspected was bonkers within 2 minutes of meeting her (she was, she's not anymore).

Thanks to everyone for their input. The wee schnauzer mix has come home to my friend and her family and sounds like she's settling in well, little unsettled the first couple of nights but no issues with toileting or barking or any of the usual stuff brand new rehomed dogs come with yet, it's been about a week. Her name is Dora 😍 no pics as not my dog but I can't wait to meet her (and will ask if I can get a pic then 😂)

Yes she just means good family pet, can take it out and about will walk on a lead, come back when called etc.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions I will let her read this thread!
Well, that pretty much rules out the little terriers and most sight hounds - delightful, but delayed / defective / non-existent recall when they’re ‘busy’.

Oh I don’t know, that’s a little unfair… Cecil Le terrier has fabulous recall, he just needs to do a quick two circuits of the field, be sure there’s no wildlife within a mile radius, do a few 100meter sprints, say hi to the neighbour in the next county and he is back by my side angelic….
