What gloves do you wear round the yard?

I'm not talking about riding but just general yard stuff ie mucking out, filling nets and water, turning out, grooming, changing rugs? I'm finding my fabric ones get wet in a heartbeat but rubber ones are cold (and look odd!).

What do you wear? I'm just wondering if thin fabric ones UNDER rubber gloves would be the answer?

For those that wear rubber ones are they bog standard yellow washing up ones or are they the industrial strength ones!

Magic gloves all the way. For starters I have really tiny hands so they are the only ones that fit properly without stupid long bits on the end of the fingers. And they are so cheap I can have numerous pairs. So if one gets wet or ripped I have another pair sitting in my locker

I used to have thermatex gloves (really need to find a new pair) which I used to wear on top of my magic gloves for mucking out which were amazing. But you did have fingers like sausages!

I wear sailing gloves - they are a mixture of stretchy stuff and suede, and are either fingerless or just have the thumb and first finger open, so you can still do buckles and stuff, and velcro fastening at the wrist to keep them cosy. When it's really cold I wear surgical gloves underneath.

And they are good for riding in too, so you don't have to keep changing them.

They are quite cheap, about a tenner, and last for ages.

Atlas gloves - originally designed for gardening, they are lightweight, thin, waterproof - they keep your hands dry and warm, but you can forget that you have got them on! Only about £7 a pair too! Bargain!! Really hard wearing too - I got them at BD Nationals this year - they're great for when I'm teaching jump lessons too - no more wet sand on my hands!!

I had a pair of these until veyr recently and they're graat - I wore a hole the fingers hence the 'till recently'.

Atlas Gloves

I bought them from the local saddlery and they were about £10 (but looks like they're cheaper on this site) which I did think was a bit pricey, but they're so flexible and wore them for everything from poo picking to tacking up. I can do buckles on rugs/bridles etc - it's like you're not wearing anything. The only downside is that they're not waterproof so any wet jobs (like washing buckets or feet) you'll need to take them off. Like it says your hands don't get hot because of the fabric back, but the rubber fingers etc are very, very tough.

I've bought something very similar from homebase for about £4, but I don't think they're as good, I think the rubber is a bit thinner and I'm alreading thinking I'll get another pair of Atlas.

Sealskinz - I wear the waterproof ones round the yard and the proper riding ones for, er, riding. They're absolutely the best gloves I've ever had - and I have very poor circulation.

i am a glove naxi, i have so many pairs as i get cold hands and try in vain to keep gloves on to stop mountains of dirt under my nails!!

For stable chores i wear pink/grey rubber fingered ones that have a fabric on the back of the hand - i dont know what they are called but they are sold in tack and garden shops in loads of different colours. they were quite expensive compared to a rubber glove but really worth it, still going strong after 1 yr.

i also just bought some MArk todd brown leather gloves with thinsulate on the inside.. £5 such a bargain and are very smart warm gloves

I used to wear thin thermal gloves under rubber gloves when I worked on our farm in the winter. It was a bit fiddly on the odd time I did any milking but I've got Raynaulds so my fingers go numb really quickly.

I couldn't live without my rubber gloves. Wilkinsons do some heavy duty ones that are lined and so good for when its freezing. People always comment on me wandering round in brightly coloured rubber gloves-I seem to be the only one at the yard that wears them, but I don't care!

Another Atlas fan here

I have two pairs, one for "home" yard duties and one for work. I used my work ones to clean the stable drains today (very messy, smelly but essential job) and simply washed them dry afterwards. They dried really quickly even in the cold! They are hardwearing (last longer than a pair of boots at work!) and very comfy, and warm enough for all but freezing/snowy weather. I'd love it if the fabric bit was also waterproof - that would make them perfect IMO. Lovely to ride in too... thick enough but thin enough too and very grippy without being OTT grippy! I love 'em (and they come in pink AND purple

You can often find Atlas gloves for £3.99 in garden centres. They don't say Atlas on them, but they are exactly the same. That's what I wear, I have a special mucking out pair and a cleaner set.
