What has been your "indespensable item" this winter??

Thermals

My hkm winter membrain Madrid boots

My seal skin gloves

Indoor stabling!

Tea room at the yard

My red puffa body warmer, it's 6 years old but still sooooo warm

Sealskinz all weather gloves are a revelation. I rave about them every day. But my real lifesaver is the hard standing and field shelter. The best money I ever spent (hard clay here). Actually other than the first 6ft off it, my field isn't too damaged because they rarely leave the "Island", only to roll and drink.

My waterproof overalls and head torch!

That's great :D I look very similar most mornings!

My winter must haves this year:

Lidl waterproof trousers
Sealskinz gloves
Thermatex
Red Horse Field Paste
Body Shop hand cream

Has Spring sprung yet?!

Rambo waterproof chaps
Mark Todd hi viz waterproof sheet-totally brilliant in all the wind and rain
Head torch
Silver feet hoof balm to prevent thrush
PE and horseware Ireland turnouts-kept them nice and dry in this weather
Mostly though the ponies themselves! They've been so good, especially with enforced turnout and less exercise. I'm moving yards this weekend as I'm not happy with our yard and I'm hoping the indoor brick stabling with indoor washroom and solarium will become my new must have in winter :)

My friend and my 11yr old granddaughter who took over the care of my mare when I broke my ankle :)

For me....neck snug, Petzl head torch , rechargeable inspection LED light and Mudbusters.
For horses...'pig oil and Fast Fibre (I feed it warm like a mash)
For yard..Gorilla sweeping brush and old Equilage haylage bags for dragging hay through the mud to the middle of the trash paddock.

Plus wine :)

In no particular order.....

My sealskinz gloves (my only purchase at Olympia!) - I have terrible circulation and to be able to scrub water buckets properly without feeling like my fingers are falling off is wonderful. And they still allow me to do headcollar/rug buckles etc.

My Dubarrys - dry and warm feet even after 3 years of daily use.

Cam's Mark Todd turnout rugs (light and heavy weight). The only rugs that don't rub him so he lives in them 24 hours (obviously removed and refitted regularly). And being turnout rugs they repel some of the stable stains I would otherwise get with a grey. Even when he comes in in the evening after a day of heavy rain, he is still totally dry under them.

Keeping my horses at home - however wet and muddy I get, I am only metres from a hot shower.

Living on a hill leading to very little mud despite the fields being quite squelchy.

My new school - the ponies are back in work and quite frankly wouldn't have been if I only had the field to exercise them in (our hacking is useless). And delighted to see that the drainage seems to be holding up so far.

Cam being on a winter break. He'll be brought back into work in another week or so, but it's nice just to be able to chill and not feel bad about not riding.

Someone has mentioned "Red Horse Field Paste"........ um, what is this please? Can't say I've ever heard of it??

It's wonderful! A sticky kaolin-type medicated thrush treatment that sticks in the horse's feet so you can apply and leave it in there for extended periods. Excellent for horses turned out or with mucky feet.

My electronic coat, the 'Hot Tummy Snug Bummy', my boyfriend ordered it for me specially from Russia. It was really expensive but it keeps you so warm and it glows in the dark too!

My good friend A* ..... I hope she`ll read this, and i know she`ll know i mean her ..... I simply love her to bits and pieces and she has been my sanity for the last few months ..... a very special person indeed and i`d be lost with out her ..... So thank you for picking up the peices for me when it`s all gone wrong, and putting the smile back on my face xx

Red horse are a small company who make health products. Field paste is anti thrush. It is a barrier cream to try and let the thrush clear. They do a brilliant Honey heal cream, very sticky but left my youngster who gorged her shoulder with no mark . They do a poltice paste to for the pus in the foot game ( don't speak too soon just the weather!)

My wonder wonder, sandy soil and my joules fluffy socks , £14.99 for 10 pairs!

fab thread, I want to come back and read this when I'm not passing out from exhaustion!

my winter essential this year has been part livery :D not exactly an item, but a lifesaver!
