I quite like Gestion Lingh that was second with Edward Gal in the 2005 FEI World Cup, but honestly I know NOTHING dressage wise! (and that is the only time i have seen him, believe he is in america now) and I like BBMat's MFSS Raubritter and if I wanted an Arab I'd seriously consider htobago's boy and I love Treliver Decanter too.
Jumping-wise Romeo (ha ha I'm getting one of those!!
) Lucky Boy, Argentinus, already got a Lohekey Helios de Bornival. Young stallion wise EL Thuder and Zutrillo are nice, and Zip Phin has caught my eye and I adore CVS Bellagio's attitude and temprement as well as his jump and of course my own fella
All of these are assuming I have a suitable mare to match to these stallions! I should have married an oil tycoon, not a plumber!! LMAO!
I love all the Ferro sons, I have used Negro a few times and been very happy with the result, so would love to try Lorenzo, Metal, Tyson or Negretto. It makes a fantastic cross with the Donnerhall linage, which I also love, especially Don Schufro. I think the most talented up and coming stallion in dressage is Cesar Parra's Furst Fabio, it has out of this world movement and very relaxed loose paces but not the typical chunky horse I like. I would absolutely love to have another Gribaldi son, I had one and had to sell it as the part owner could not afford to keep it anymore and I could not afford to buy her out. I have a Painted Black filly, and I am a little disappointed, she is not going to be a superstar or even not a competition horse, she is painfully shy and very tiny despite both her parents being 17hh, and her paces are very normal and not in any way expressive. Would like to try Painted Black again though to see if she is a one off. I would use any of Edward Gal's stallions, they are all amazing and my type of horse: Gribaldi, Lingh (when he was there), Moorlands Totilas, San Remo, VDL Prestige. I am tempeted to use Pro-set next year but the offspring are a little on the light side for what I like, I prefer big and chunky. I love Rohdiamant, Rubenstein, Diamond Hit, Sandro Hit, Fidermark and I am seriously considering using Royal Diamond as he is spectacular. Personally I would use any well-bred Europpean stallion as they are all amazing.
For showjumping I would only use one line and that is thhe line that includes Cento, Capitol 1, Capitol 2, Cumano, Berlin etc. This Big grey Holsteiner line is absolutely amazing and is one of the few linages that consistently produce top class jumpers. I bought a horse from Zangersheide by Chippendale Z out of a Cento mare and he was out of this world for sj. Although it was slightly worrying that both his mum and dad were by Cento! I would use any Zangersheide stallions for sj breeding and the only other would be arko, argentinus line. Any sj stallions that are big chunky and has masses of scope, i would use!
For ponies, there is no question I would use the FS stud, especially FS Don't worry and FS Champion de Luxe, I mean just watch this:......!
Good choice of stallions and I would include Carthago. We tried to use Chippendale Z on our mare 3 years as we were so impressed with him at the stallion grading and was a class against the other stallions. Unfortunatly she didn't take which was a shame as his bloodlines are fantastic.
Zangersheide have an open day/stallion grading normally in Feb and is well worth a visit.
"and if I wanted an Arab I'd seriously consider htobago's boy" (Navalgem)
Sorry I don't know how to make two 'quotes' appear in a reply.
But WOW! Didn't think I'd see my own H Tobago's name in this thread - let alone twice! Thank you so much Enfys and Navalgem!
Enfys - Tobago is available by frozen semen, only in the UK and Europe at the moment, but what with getting enquiries from the US, and him now being on Liz Salmon's US-based website (see my boastful thread), I've been thinking of expanding this next year to include US and Australia - maybe I should include Canada as well?
By the way, unlike many of the best show-Arabs, he's not ludicrously expensive! I'm not in this for money and I believe there should be at least some good ones that are affordable for smaller breeders.
If I had a suitable mare I would use Tobago's grandsire Padrons Psyche (except his book is now closed
) or his sire Psytadel (except his stud fee is over £2000! - see what I mean about
Htobago, it is very frustrating, here I am, for once with a beautifully bred mare and not a Psyche stallion for absolutely miles, now, I see one that I really like and he's in England! I am not sure that I would risk AI, Lola has never taken to AI before which is why she was sold from stud
By the way, you have every right to brag about your boy once in a while, nothing wrong with being proud and showing it, I would too...
I am bound to be wrong here as I can't find confirmation, but did I not read that Psyche had died recently?
Oh Enfys I feel frustrated for you too! I want to rush over with some Tobago-semen for you - although that wouldn't be much help if she won't take with AI. But having said that, we had a 20yo mare to him this year who had never taken by AI before, and he got her in foal - with twins! And one in Belgium who hadn't taken even with fresh semen, and he got her in foal with frozen, at the first attempt!
So it could be that a different stallion, or improved AI techniques or something, would work for your girl.
No - Padrons Psyche is still v much alive, just no longer available to outside mares. You're thinking of his sire, Padron, who died recently - at a grand old age, I think, but still very sad.
There must be some good Psyche stallions in Canada, surely?
If not, there should be some double-Padron and even double-Padrons Psyche babies by my boy next year - shall I persuade the owners to ship you out a colt lol?
I do love your boy, and LS gave him a super write up for you too. It is quite fun 'knowing' a famous stallion, and being able to follow his progress. What are your future plans for him, more showing?
Cruiser did find me a Psyche stallion for sale but hubby put his foot down at an arab stallion on the property. I didn't send Lola off to stud this year for purely selfish reasons.....I didn't want the foal being away from here for 6 weeks or so.
AI here could be hit and miss, you'd need a decent horse vet and they are few and far between. Otherwise I presume I could take a mare to the Vet College at Guelph which isn't that far from us, not far being about 2 hours in Canadian terms. I have never used AI before, so am pretty ignorant about it at the moment, but busily soaking up info from here, I'd go into it a lot more if I was to use it.
Enfys I have PM'd you so as not to hi-jack this thread with too much Tobago-talk!
But your more general point about the difficulties of AI where you are in Canada is relevant to this discussion - we rather take it for granted here in the UK that we can use pretty much any stallion we want (providing we can afford the fees lol!), as a decent vet or AI centre is never too far away.
Really interesting to read about people's top-choice stallions, though - I'm learning a lot here!
Apart from Psytadel, Psyche, etc., the Arab stallion I would love to use would be the amazing Kubinec!
