Im with KBIS , currently claiming, they pay out very quickly and are nice on the phone BUT
My own fault I didnt check my poilcy after moving from petplan
They dont cover alternative therapies, transport, hospital fees at vets , second opinions and any repeat treatment given by another vet if you change during a claim.
So although they are quick with the claim Id advise checking policy
KBIS were amazing with Vay. They paid out 6.5k in total with no questions asked.
Maybe I had a higher cover than summerleft but they paid all the hospital stabling fees and I was reffered to a different practice halfway through the same claim and they paid both practices what they were owed fine! I also had £500 to use towards alternative therapies!
They let me do all the investigations I wanted and paid them without a quibble even though nothing wrong was found.
They were amazing. I wrote them an 'I love you' thank you note I was so pleased!
We have had a bad experience with NFU. My mums old horse needed investigation into a back problem. They made us get reports from every different vet in her passport to say she had never been treated by them for back problems. This took ages as she had lived in different parts of the country.
They then took ages to decide (months) if horse was allowed investigations, they then said if nothing wrong was found they wouldnt pay out. Kissing spines was found and then they took months to settle the bill. They were a right pain, this happened fairly recently last summer too.
I'm with Stoneways & have made two claims, one for death of a horse & the other for tack theft. Both times they were v.helpful on the phone & paid out promptly with no fuss.
I know one of my friends was insured with NFU when she lost her horse & was happy with how the claim was handled.
A friend of mine insured her horse with nfu but only to find that when she wanted to make a claim the horse was a caravan!lol,so my confidence not 100% with nfu and its not first time ive known this to happen!lol.
Another vote for SEIB - horse and trailer. But tbh not had to claim for anything yet... *touch wood, x fingers, toes, plait horses hair, my hair etc!!!* LOL
Firewell, they are happy for me to transfer to a vet but not for a second opinion, so I didnt get one I just moved.
Must admit All I saw when picking my policy was vets fees 100% 75% etc choices, I went for the 100% one. Maybe Ive jsut been unlucky and picked the wrong policy, so easily done. My horse turns 15 this year so I dont think they will cover him anyway...
