I am moving in 3 weeks

and have been so busy that I haven't ridden Frankie for about a week, and it looks like I won't be riding him before I go either

and by the time I settle in etc in my new home (a long way away) it will probably be about 6/8 weeks before I get to ride again

Will I forget all I've learned in the last year?
smirk.gif
I doubt it, but I have spent so much money on lessons over the past year that I'm worried I'll forget everything and be back to riding like a sack of spuds like I used to!

Tell me I'm being stupid!

I really miss riding

What's the longest you've gone without riding? (In your riding 'career', not before you even started riding you cheeky so and so's

)

Umm, probably 2-3 weeks when been on holiday or away with work or if particulary horsey I'm riding at the time is off work. Usually though if one horse is off there is another at the yard that I'll ride as I have the extra time. I remember having about 3 weeks off last year sometime and when I got back on my legs killed!!

lots of 6 months due to injuries & a year a piece when i did my Achilles tendon & fractured my lower back
frown.gif

6 months when i was 16 and couldnt fit any riding in between my weekend job and school. then i went to horsey college and had the best of...well...3 worlds!!! Education, work and horses!!!

I've gone 5 months without riding so far and have another couple to go (I hope!) but apart from being completely unfit on a horse I'm pretty confident that I won't have lost my feel.
I'll make sure I have a fair few lessons though so that I don't let any bad habits get the better of me!

Also I'm going to have a few mechanical horse lessons so that it is focussed purely on me!

I'm sure you'll be fine after only a couple of months. Just make sure you keep reading up on things, that's what I am doing to keep everything fresh in my mind, if you know what I mean!

Every year i dont get to ride for 3weeks (on holiday).
But the longest is probably 4weeks when i broke my arm.
And yes i didnt last the whole 6weeks, i started sitting on him (on leadrope, bareback) at about 4weeks in when i still had my cast on

!

Have just got back into the saddle after 8 months off and feel like a sack of sh*t!!!
frown.gif

Trouble is, my horse is ready and raring to go - aaaaargh!!

You'll be fine. I'm guessing you're quite a bit younger (and probably much fitter!) than I am, so you won't find it quite so hard. 6-8 weeks isn't that long in the general scheme of things.

Ilfield that's what I was thinking - once I get settled and paid bills etc I'm going to book one or two private lessons just to recap LOL!

And I'll keep having a ganders in the New Lounge to keep my mind topped up hehe

I had a HUGE gap of nearly 4 years when i had my daughter. i rode my friend's horse for her while my friend recovered from knee surgery, then my friend got better and I got pregnant, so that all stopped.

I got back on a horse in March last year and found everything had gone to pot in the preceding 4 years. I also found out that I couldn't actually ride, and everything I'd been doing in the past was variations on just sitting there...its been a very steep learning curve this last year.

The longest break from riding I've had because of holidays has been 2 weeks, and I had 3 weeks off when I broke my collar bone because of the time lapse between the break and the surgery.

About 10 years, gave up whilst pregnant with daughter and didn't restart until she started having lessons at the age of 10. Everything seemed to of changed from when I first learnt to ride, but got back into it really quick, hadn't forgotton anything just lots of new things to learn.

It's not your mind that forgets, it's your body!!!!! Good luck with your move, sounds like you have a hectic time coming!

I had a break of about 3 months when I sold my horse in favour of a boyfriend
shocked.gif
BIG mistake.....soon realised, got rid of boyfriend and got another horse
grin.gif

I hate being away from horses - I've gone through a couple of phases where I've sold horses, but I've always ended up riding other peoples. Nothing like having your own though.

Are you going to look for another one to loan/share when you've moved? You won't forget everything - you'll just ache afterwards
grin.gif

i had a year and a half break when i was around 9 cos of falling off three times in a row wrecked my confidence. when i started again when i was around 10/11 i got back into it pretty quick
smile.gif

the longest time i havent ridden since then was 4 weeks when i went on hol
smile.gif

saskia I have a very hectic time up ahead

Sara when i get settled I will defiantly be looking for something to ride - I couldn't be completely horseless!

I just worry because I am a perfectionist, and feel that I have come on so much (and Frankie has, but he's on his own

About 14 months

due to health probs

It came back pretty quickly too

Just couldn't walk for the following week

The latest gap was 1 year. I rode for the first time since a month ago and I was nervous that I'd be crap, but I think it went ok. Then a week later rode for 3 hours dressage and jumping had a really good time, but was quite sore afterwards! Hopefully I'll feel better when I get a new horsey and I won't always ache like that. I'm sure I'm not that old
