What is the problem

Just say what you think

Is it possible to overhorse yourself with a warmblood? I know they are big but I haven't met one yet that is more of a handful than a TB for example

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes I think it is as some WBs are just so inbred and (sorry) but totally dumb they can be almost dangerous as they have no sense! Some of the nicest horses I have ridden are hot bloods (Andys) and some of the most difficult pig headed ones that I have had to concede defeat wth are continental WBs

[ QUOTE ]
Nah, wasnt being specific to Wb, just numb nut people ingeneral!! LoL!! Yes I have come across some Wb that have over horsed people, but have Tbs aswell! As I said, no probs with WB owners in general, unfortunately, they seem to be the "in fashion" horses at the mo, that attract people who want a fashion statement
smirk.gif
Would say exactly the same regardless of breed of horse
grin.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

Do you mean like the term 'hunter' 15 years ago?

I have made no assumption that Wb are big!? There are pony wb, look at Manitu!! But some people can be over horsed by a 13.2 if theyre clueless enough!!

My reply was to the_watcher who said 'i know they are big'

Yes! Exactly Stimpy, people go through "trends" of what the in thing is. At the moment, it seems to be the fashion to import flashy warmbloods, which is fab if you are buying it because you have made a conscious effort you need that horse because of its temperaent/movement etc etc, but NOT just because it is the in thing to do to look good!!

[ QUOTE ]
Are you saying that WB's are in fact the ULTIMATE in BSJA bling
grin.gif
tongue.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

Quite simply...
grin.gif
nah, just any big flashy horse you have paid X amount for and it is going to be an amazing horse because you've imported it and paid X amount for!!

I know they are not ALL big, as I have researched potential stallions to suit my 15.2 mare..my comment was merely reflecting the opening post and the general perception - not just in the horsey world and amongst those that know. Some are enormous however!

[/ QUOTE ]

I am sooo behind the times. I have been calling mine a "Hunter" type for the last 12 years when infact I could have been all "Bling" and called him a "Warmblood".
tongue.gif

My reason for posting this is that people seem to be a bit prejudiced about Warmblood’s and the people that own them…just reading in some other posts…..and on here…Weezey, I have met lots of over bred TB’s who are to sharp and stupid for their own good…
I think that it is a common misconception that WB owners think that they are something they are not, have more money than sense and buy a horse that looks good but with little brains to make them look good when on top. Its not just on here I get that feeling….

Well, i have a Danish WB and i only got her coz she was for sale through a friend and she was a real bargain
grin.gif
- she is the best horse i've had. BUT i love all breeds, theres no breed that i specifically hate and i don't think one breed is superior to another. Another breed, well breed cross, i'll definitely have again and again is a TB x Clydesdale! Also NFs, can't beat a good NF! lol

Nah....I think you have the right idea....WB's are two-a-penny, Hunters are rare ! You'll make much more money calling it a hunter lol!

Has somebody been sniping about your horse? give them a slap!
smile.gif

At the end of the day we buy what we want and what we think is right for what we want to do. I do try to support our native breeds and I am sure there are people out there who might think a shaggy Highland isn't worth having..it is my choice.

If you want a Warmblood - then go get one. The only rider for me would be that it is the right horse for the job and not being purchased to suit fashion or peer pressure

Problem is what do you do when the only ones you've met are complete tos@ers?

OK one of them but still, she's a nightmare.

Is the problem not with people having a preconception of what warmbloods are like? I have known both lazy and forward going ones, naughty pig headed stubborn ones, kind and generous ones, talented and not so talented, intelligent and all the way down the scale to downright stupid!
This also goes for other breeds too - judge the horse as an individual

To me, a BIG WB would be P_G's Archie or something like that

i knew someone would bring my big monster into this!!!!!!
grin.gif

While we're on the subject of him id like to add that i did not set out to by a 'big dutch warmblood' he just hapened to be the perfect size for me and has a temprement to die for. I wouldnt change him for the world.

My Bloss would also fall into the WB category, however shes british (well half french) through and through!
smirk.gif

I do agree in that you get some people who buy these expensive big moving horses and send them away to be schooled and they really just dont have a clue. makes me really angry.

However i feel the stigma attached to WBs in slightly unfair - you do get geniuine people like me who are looking for a horse and their perfect one happens to be a WB, thats not my fault thats what i ended up with!! I looked at numerous other horses and non of them were WBs and most were too small for me!! I cant help it if im tall!!
tongue.gif
grin.gif

Couple of snipes….not on here! Just irritated at the fact that because I have got a nice horse I am rolling in cash and bought him as a fashion accessory…I bought him because I wanted him the moment I saw him, had no confidence and he looks after me, and love him…even though the dopey git bit half my finger off yesterday! Yuk! That and people assume I paid a fortune for a ready made horse…(he was quite cheap actually – I sort of did a swap with a very good friend…he cost me some cash, a hairy cob and 2 saddles…)

There's a stereo type for every kind of horse and every kind of owner, all horse people tend to be erm "opinionated" hence we all end up stereo-typed.

Who cares, I have fun living up to stereotypes sometimes
wink.gif

But since I have no owned a pure TB, connie/arab/tb cross, pure warmblood, and ISH , just what does that make me, dazed and confused is possibly the answer
grin.gif

What will I end up with next. Although to add to the stereo type the WB was the worst by far although he was only 15.2.

Ditto !

I didn't set out to buy a WB, but as I was looking for a horse that would be successful in SJ'ing, was big enough to take me, and was affordable I guess it was sort of inevitable that I would.

Incidentally, I find this whole idea of WB's be a 'new' thing quite hilarious. Twenty years ago when I was competing at a fairly decent level, the 'in' horse to have was a continental WB. We couldn't afford to pay my trainers prices for one at the time, so had to make do with an IDx. I think the term is now ISH though...or Irish WB
tongue.gif

Hunny a lot of ppl think because you own a horse *any horse/pony/donkey* that you are rolling in money!
LMAO! HELLOOOOO because I have a horse I am flat BROKE!

Im sure ppl thought my parents were mad when they bought me an ex pointer when I was 13. I subsequently had another racehorse, then a loony 5 year old, then winston who really is a MANS horse I keep being told and now have a dinky hot headed warmblood - who cares!

If you get on, have a lot of fun with each other then what business is it of others?

OI! Stimpy! You will have to come hacking with me and Mangobiscuit over the heath via the pub, and then you can meet me and decide if I am an idiot or not!

[ QUOTE ]
Exactly! And are we going to do our bit this year to prove that WB's can event??!!
