Chambon, used a lot in Europe when lunging, ideally with thick, Mullen bit;As title. I saw this on an Instagram story. It looks like a chambon but there's no discrete attachment to the bit, it's just clipped to the headpiece?

(I also think it's horrid and teaches the horse nothing worthwhile.)
Never heard of that. Off to Google....Isn't that a De Gogue?

Funny diagram! Your sketch might be of what sometimes got called a ‘continental’ schooling martingale? That’s if you’ve drawn a collar loop round the neck?I thought chambon were the things that split before the head into two separate lines.

Or have I just completely imagined that such a thing exists?
Yes, de Gogue has pulleys at the poll, and stops to prevent overbending when ridden, and more versatility than a chambon. The de Gogue has pulleys - to me a Chambon was always fixed... Maybe modern methods of 'encouragement' have all swirled together...
Looks like a chambon in OP,Genuinely hadn't heard of a de gogue but

So the photo in the OP is a chambon?
PS. de Gogue, not gouge!Looks like a chambon in OP,
but that Hy de Gogue in the advert is very short, almost pony-sized on the grey horse - wouldn’t buy that brand if you’re hoping to use one successfully!
