As title. I saw this on an Instagram story. It looks like a chambon but there's no discrete attachment to the bit, it's just clipped to the headpiece?

(I also think it's horrid and teaches the horse nothing worthwhile.)

I think it's like this chambon LINK. If you zoom in you can see the attachment coming up at an angle from the bit through the big ring on the headpiece. It looks absolutely hammered on.

I thought chambon were the things that split before the head into two separate lines.

Or have I just completely imagined that such a thing exists?
Funny diagram! Your sketch might be of what sometimes got called a ‘continental’ schooling martingale? That’s if you’ve drawn a collar loop round the neck?

Or maybe you were thinking of a de Gogue? Which you can also ride in - I’m looking at your red lines / reins?? - there’s a stop to prevent over-winding the horse up, but most people would also ride with a plain rein on the bit, too.

Genuinely hadn't heard of a de gogue but

What I drew (I'm not Monet!!!!) looks like one

So the photo in the OP is a chambon?

Looks like a chambon in OP,
but that Hy de Gogue in the advert is very short, almost pony-sized on the grey horse - wouldn’t buy that brand if you’re hoping to use one successfully!

De Gogue. Useful in the right hands used very carefully for a horse that has a. Upside down type ewe neck and hollow back due to incorrect trainjng. Used for about 5 mins at a time and not as shown in the photo.

It looks like a de gogue that has been put on incorrectly to try and achieve... whatever it is that they are trying to achieve...

I have used one on a couple of horses which proved useful but certainly not like this...

No I absolutely don't want to use one or anything of the sort I just didn't know what it was but thank you so much for the info on these things because they are utterly foreign to me
