What is very similar in fit to my ghastly Thorowgood T4 cob?!

I backed my mare a few months ago, she was hell to fit a saddle to - everything that seemingly fitted her worked its way up her neck as soon as I put her out to trot on the lunge (she has a very forward girth groove). I was gutted that my WOW (which I absolutely love) was one that did this :( So in the end with the help of a very sticky gel pad, the only saddle which stayed put was the Thorowgood T4 Cob. Problem is I HATE IT! I figured I'd just put up with it for a few months and she'd likely change shape so I could maybe try the WOW back on her. Sadly though the Thorowgood still seems to be fitting her fine. After a jumping lesson yesterday, I just cannot get on with it - its the most unsupportive saddle in the world! I feel like I'm sitting on a plank of wood with pathetic knee rolls which my knees just go past. It's hard enough to sit to baby leaps without a rubbish saddle trying to force me off balance!

So is there anything at all out there that is similar in fit to this saddle but far nicer in general? I want leather for a start (hate synthetic!) and just generally comfier with more support, I dont want big knee blocks or anything, just SOMETHING there would be nice. Can't be very pricey either... as my house keeps falling apart ;)

My WOW fitter mentioned I could get a balancing strap added to my WOW which might work, however obviously this is rather expensive and I don't want to do this if it won't work. Has anyone had success with this? I am also wondering if my weight sitting on it might well keep it stuck in place as well?

I had a T4 cob and hated it too! I now have a custom made saddle on a saddle company tree and LOVE it! The best thing about saddle company saddles, is that the tree can be adjusted, so if your horse changes shape you won't need to buy a new saddle :)

Another for Kent and Masters! Their jump saddle is built on the cob tree, and they did a monoflop jump on the cob tree too; though you might struggle to find one second hand :).

I'm glad its not just me this is the only saddle I can get to fit my girl and I hate it! It's so uncomfortable and the quality is awful!

So glad its not just me then flosskins! Awful! I know they're cheap saddles but even so.

Thanks will have a look at Kent & Masters ones. She's not even a cob, she's only got 1/8 of cob in her, otherwise she's anglo arab!

I have a T4 high wither GP and a dressage saddle and personally I think they are very good saddles.

I bought the GP as a stop gap for my horse as something cheap to keep her going when my other saddles didnt fit. I find it good for jumping in, as its fairly forwards cut, and the knee blocks are large and in the right place to stop my legs swinging back, which they tend to do in a "normal" GP saddle.

And, the biggest advantage to them so far, my horse started off in a medium gullet, and now is in a wide one. If I'd had an normal saddle, no doubt she'd have been through a couple in a year!

I have a gfs haflinger on both my horses 1 x haffy 1 x welsh d youngster who also had the saddle slipping forwards issue. I tried him in a kent and masters cob and I absolutely hated it, not for me at all. I use a barnsby grip pad which is fantastic for keeping it put, for a saddle that slips forward/forward girth groove you need a point strap not a balance strap, a balance strap won't help at all, will most likely make it worse. I've had a point strap put on.

Just had the saddle fitter out to my youngster. I had borrowed a friends T4 cob which fitted him but I didn't like it for myself.

However, I tried a T8 jump version and it was like riding in my K2 jump saddle! The other one that fitted was a Frank Baines GP but not as good as the T8
