I think mine is how rewarding it is when you accomplish something with them like building up their confidence to do something until they do it on their own.

Go!

When you're in the field and they come over just to hang around with you. Esp my big one because he has really come out of his shell since I first had him. Presents his bottom for a scratch, licks my boots and itches on the wheelbarrow - makes me laugh.

The smell. The smell of picking out pony feet takes me back to being 10 years old and going to the local riding school for an own a pony week!

Slightly flippant answer and I have more serious ones, but when every it happens I feel pure childish happiness, no cares, no responsibilities, even just for a couple of seconds

The way she looks for me when she's feeling insecure. The way she waits for me when I open the gate to run the three of them in for the night - my boys bog off to their stables for hay, but she waits and walks with me. And I love her rotating thinking ears <3

I also love the way my Daemon pony bombs around in the field like a twit, and the way Fergus bounces off my leg when we're hacking. And I love the way they all come and stare at me when I'm running, like I've totally lost my marbles.

The whole lifestyle. Obviously the connection with a powerful animal that chooses to be your friend. But in my opinion, only someone who has been filthy and freezing really appreciates the simple things like a soak in the bath, or a drink of squash after a long distance ride in the summer. Been doing it for 45 years..love it all.:)

The quiet moments when everything's done and you can stand in the field and listen to the contented chomping and one or two will wander over and stick their noses up against your face and ask for attention.

And being neighed at. No matter how old I get, having a horse call to you makes me feel like a little girl in of the pony books.

When you are soaked to the skin with ice forming on your hair.. Your legs are burnt red with the cold... Your sure your fingers have fallen off!! You smell like sh...t... Your horses are wired to the moon because they haven't been out because there is 10 inches of mud...they stand on your foot- it turns out you can feel your toes OWWW- you turn them out in your New arena and they kick out and break your post and rail fencing!!!

That's my favourite.

So many things but these rate quite highly ^^
I can waste hours just watching them eat hay :o
I do live for the training though.. and without them I wouldn't have met my OH either. I love LOADS of things :D

when it is cold and wet in the winter and i bring them in and my horse is then in the dry with a thick bed, and is munching her hay. i love just watching her eating..... i also absolutely love the days she comes in and hasnt rolled, this hardly ever happens !!!!!!!

Totally this :)

The routine of the day. Turning out, mucking out, leaving a tidy inviting stable ready for coming in time. Grooming and riding. Dismounting and thanking my horse for the ride. Bringing in, checking late at night. Everything. No minute spent with my horses is a minute wasted.

This, 100%.

Plus Christmas Day hacks, long distance summer hacks & pub rides.

At this time of year - warming your hands up on cold days inside their rugs :)

Their company and personalities. When they choose to be with you when they are completely free to be somewhere else. The pride in seeing a horse you've brought on yourself fulfilling the potential you always saw in them.

When they're warm and dry in their stable and you just hug their neck, feeling their coat, breathing in the scent of horse and fresh hay and listening to them chew, and for a moment your brain goes quiet and nothing exists outside of that moment.

When you lose all track of time, and all the while life's stresses and worries have been left behind you. The peace of the routine, your brain busy with the task at hand that nothing else can bother you.

I also quite like feeding them.... :p

getting up in the dark at weekends while the rest of the house is asleep, sneaking out with a brew going to feed when no one else is around and its just you and our horse before other people arrive.

That's my favourite.

You seem annoyed about this

I don't know if I can put into words my actual favourite stuff because it's so beyond words... when you just get that togetherness thing going on.

The other thing is when they are just such good ponies. Like the little things where they behave perfectly for the farrier or just walk into the trailer or stand still while a tractor goes past. I'm a sucker for that.

And fluttery nostrils and little whinnies. And big "hurry up with my hay" whinnies.

And when they trust you and you trust them and you ask and they give with all their big generous hearts and you go together and do the thing that's been challenging you both.

I'm just a total sucker for all their charms.

knowing they are so intune they sense we are coming. We rarely even get into the lane without one calling to us. They usually know we are coming when we turn onto the main road about 500 yards from the lane entrance. I know this as the hikers tell me they know we are on our way because they call for us they dont do it when any other vehicle arrives. They chunter away as we arrive and gather near the fence. I know they are after their dinner but its nice. I also love it when they chose to be with you after they have been fed and watered and have a large strip of newish grass to enjoy but prefer your company. Not so sure I like the poo picking help which usually results in a tipped barrow but it is great they want to be with you. Best time is being on your own on a warm breezy summers evening just chilling with them as friends and watching them interact with each other and listening to the birds and insects buzzing through the hedges.

I love Saturdays - Saturdays are the days I put new straw in, after I've done a big muck out, nice new bed, big bag of hay, dinners in their boxes and I bring them in for tea, love seeing them eat their dinner and then make noises for their treatballs.

Also love smelling them, love their smell.

For me, it is living in the moment. Being with my horse is my 're-set' button, just me and her, and being a team together. As well as the smell, the fluttering nostrils, the clear cupboard love, their lovely souls...
