What is your pet hate when it comes to adverts?

has hunted/xc/sj, but was he any good?
lousy pictures where you can't see conformation or how its going, the only pic in one add was the horse in a rug standing in a field.
missing height/age/sex
low mileage - does that just mean green?

Definitely the misuse of the word 'stunning'. I have seen some described as 'stunning' that would better be described as 'pot ugly'. Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder but sometimes a trip to Specsavers wouldn't go amiss.

I would have thought it pretty obvious that a just backed 3 year old is going to be VERY green (particularly as I made a point of stressing that in the ad)!!
And I put in the ad that the pony is just 14.1hh on his bum - who, in their right mind, would measure a 3 year old on the withers anyway? Surely everyone knows that no 3 year old has reached its mature height yet and I really would have thought that an equine vet especially would have had rather more common sense.
I made very sure when I compiled the ad that I included as much information as possible as I had taken on board all the comments that have been on various forums including this one, on what people want to see! That's why people who waste your time coming to see something that is clearly NOT what they are looking for, are classed as "timewasters" in my book.

Well perhaps they both thought the horse was rubbish and were trying to be diplomatic then.

I still don't see why writing no timewasters on the advert helps. These people probably didn't think they were timewasting! It is more likely to put off a potential good owner who doesn't want to be branded a timewaster if they are unsure than deter a hardened joy rider!

The vet probably thought you were a fool for measuring it on its bum (I can understand your logic though) especially given the comment about "that's where you measure horses to".

To me, "no joy riders, time wasters," etc means don't bother coming and looking if you havent got the money or aren't serious about buying. Or for people who just go round trying out horses for free rides!!!

Not novice ride......easier to explain over phone than describing all down on paper. Not novice ride doesnt put me off as depends on how someone is rating it... could just be over cautious person.....been to see horse before that was said not to be novice ride and was in my opinion nice easy horse....

POA - UGH!!!!!! Give us some idea so we know whether or not to bother calling!!!

I hate:

"manners to burn"
"novice ride, never strong" when the horse is standing there in a grackle, tight running martingale, and a Dutch Gag on the bottom ring
"never sick or sorry"

But no one invites those sort of people to look at their horse! It should be implicit in an advert that only those who are serious should turn up to look, but there are a few who have the brass neck to take window shopping a couple of steps further. But if they are that bold they really aren't going to think twice just because you write no timewasters in an ad.

Afterall what are you going to do if they "timewaste"? Even if you put "no timewasters" in your ad and someone turned up rode your horse and got off saying "actually I'm not looking to buy a horse at all nah nah ne nah nah" the fact is you can do naff all about it bar asking them to leave your premises. So what is the point writing it in the ad???

The people who it will put off are genuine buyers who may not be confident about making an immediate decision, but they may be a perfect long term home for your horse as they are also likely to be people who don't buy and sell regularly!

Utterly counter productive if you ask me!

Friends of ours advertised their teenagers horse as 'JRN Horse'. Not 'Potential JRN horse', it was stated as a 'JRN Horse'. Hadnt been near a Novice course, and had just done two BE100's, badly.

Over use of the word 'Stunning'.

Sorry Katt I disagree with just about all that

I hate it when people put "First to see WILL buy" - how do you know??!! Makes me want to go and try it then not buy it just so I can say Told You So :P (Wait, does that makes me a timewaster?? ;) )

Agree, POA is my biggest hate in an advert. It means vastly over priced, and I don't understand why people can't just say how much they're asking!

i agree with all of the above, the - hunted/xc/sj - one doesnt bother me too much, but the others are right in my opinion - low mileage? am i buying a car? why dont people just either say green or horse hasn't done much

POA also drives me crazy!

There is a riding school around my way that has some ponies for sale on their website, and it states " only for sale if to remain at xxxx stables"........how can they say that?? you could just move as soon as you have bought the pony, surely?? I looked there when i was looking for a safe first pony for my daughter, the ponies look lovely and safe, but the price tag coupled with that made me think no way!!!

poa assume incredibly expensive
riders not wearing hats
standing on horses backs assume their brain doners and first to see will buy .talk about pressure

That has reminded me of an advert i saw when I was looking. It was for a young black arab gelding that sounded really nice, but it said Xxxxxxx is ridden bitless and barefoot and is only available to a gentle, metal free rider. I was very tempted to go and play all fluffy bunnyish and see if she would sell it to me, lol. :D
