What was it that made you buy the horses you ended up with?

I found Gertie by chance as was veiwing another horse 5 mins down the road. She was totally different to what I was looking for , but I knew before I'd even patted her she was the one...

As for Monty, who knows, I felt really sorry for him I guess as he was a hat rack and covered in sores etc. Now he's a thug.

How about you?

It was love at first sight - simple as that. He came out of the stable and my heart was lost.

He didn't actually ride that great - but jumped like a stag. That was the selling point for me.

Again found my lad by chance. Went to look at a 15.2hh chesnut tbx 12yo to do JRN on, came home after one viewing of a 16.2hh ISH grey 7yo who had hunted xD Just fell in love with his temprement, his scope over a fence, his paces, and his, "Aren't I the most beautiful horse you've ever seen" face lol

Starman was bought from a Farmer we went on holiday to in Devon. He was 400gns and 6 months old

Candi was bought after Pelly had died. Someone told us about her and we gave £100.

Didnt really want Fredric but, heard he was gonna be shot ( he was 10 years old, sound and a winning Racer) We gave £25 for him

My mare is the mother of my friend little boys pony. Both so gentle and sweet and the first time I met her I knew she was perfect for me. She lived wild on the moor and let me go right up to her and put her nose straight into my handbag looking for food

I had a horse I didn't get on with, and the dealer agreed to take him back - when I went to deliver him, I saw this horse looking over a stable door- he'd been through a bad time, looked like a skelton, was stressy ...I rode him and he bucked around the arena then strutted his stuff. i just wanted him, and I felt safe on him despite the bucking, I just knew he was the one. 4 years later he looks fantastic, we have a great bond and he's still the one.

The mare and the shettie we knew before we bought them from friends, so we knew all their quirks anyway.

I went to see a rather nice looking mare and didn't like her.
The lady said she had something else that I might like but he was still in the field.
This hairy, muddy horse with the most beautiful donkey eyes came up the field with the yard manager and I fell in love.

The first I fell in love from the second I saw her tied up in the yard.

The second was completely what I wanted on paper, and made me feel so safe when I rode her - don't get me wrong she did spook and be silly but it was all in away I could deal with after my confidence had been severly knocked.

Ponio was ment to be sold by a friend for a profit - but someone came to see her and we both broke down completely, Mum ended up buying her so she could stay!

I went to view Sapp and was instantly taken by her kind eyes and very gentle nature, even though she was still very young, when I handled her. I asked could i return to catch her/tack up etc etc and explained I was looking for a horse i would always keep.........

got on her and she just felt 'right' - not too tall, fat, flighty etc etc - in my eyes she was 'just perfect'. Quiet when i needed, sparky when i needed.

Any how, got her home, she was a complete loon for about 6 weeks until i managed to wean her off bucket loads of oats, nuts etc that she came with and she calmed down......

20 odd years later and she's still my lovely (but grumpy, spoilt mare)

LOL

she is evil to other horses in the field/standing on yard, but once you are on her she's the perfect lady to and never kicks.

She is wonderful to humans but will try and kill anything else - always been told she's 'very marish'.

I do love my stroppy old mare

I went to just 'have a look' at Andoversford horse fair, just for the day out. And fell in love with this Chestnut mare who'd failed to sell in the ring because she was practically cartwheeing!
The auctioneer told her handler to take her out of the ring before she caused an accident or injury

Out of the ring she was a lamb. Looked her over & fell competely in love. Bought her there & then, on the field.

She hasn't failed me once & she is one in a million.

I've been offered nearly 10x what I paid for her & had other offers from a few other people but I wouldn't ever part with her for any sort of money.

We just clicked I guess. I just 'knew' she was the one, even though she wasn't what I was looking for (a just broken two year old) & I wasn't planning on buying for another few months or so.

Love her to bits, I've had her for the past 10/11 years & she has a home for life with me now.

I had just had my pony PTS the month before and my friend rang me saying she was looking for someone to take her mare 'free to a good home' as she was a total lunatic and selling would have been very difficult.

I jumped at the chance, I knew how crazed she was but when she came off the lorry everyone at the yard looked at me like I had gone mad! Having now had her for 5 years I can safely say I will only buy Arabs in the future, the best breed ever IMO

I didn't try mine either

Checked her over & had her trotted up. Got the seller's groom to hop on her just so I had a general idea but that was it. Really, I went against every rule of horse buying

I wouldn't advise it generally but it worked out for me

I just had that feeling that she was it. Strange.

She's a chestnut mare too! And everyone said "What on earth have you done?...

" <----- with that look accompanying the statement as well. Even I began to wonder until I saw her on arrival at the yard, and got that feeling all over again!

Blu - Her jump. Didn't like her other than that

She is my star now though

Cara - Her jump again, and her lovely nature

Well Oshk came to me by coincidence- I went to watch a dressage demo near us, and he was at the yard, stuck out like a sore thumb. I went over to give him a cuddle- and the man mucking him out was gobsmacked he came to his door to say hello- he was apparently scared of people
frown.gif

I went down the following day to ride him, he threw a paddy, and jumped the fence out of the area with me on- I knew I wanted him, he was so full of beans- my mother thought I was barking.

I felt sorry for Benson...he was looking a bit bedraggled and unloved...knew he was the one straight away though and bought him even without a vetting. Ended up an absolute star...granted he was only 2 years old instead of 5 but I learnt quickly and he's turnt out lovely!

I'd just decided to give my loan horse back as she wasn't right for me, but hadn't decided what to do next.
Our yard manager was selling her horse and persuaded me to try him. Needless to say I loved him and bought him!

Buddie was small, cute and cheap!
Bear was lovely and quiet natured and also a bargain even though he wasn't broken in, he was so easy and 2 years later I have had 3 offers on him! He's not for sale though!

i ride mollie for a friend, and to be honest i just love her quirkyness and ability
laugh.gif
loved her as soon as i sat on her but i never went looking for her.

chester was offered to me and i drove 3.5 hours to see him with all these images/hopes/expectations etc but as soon as i drove up the drive i spotted him and he was so friendly and loving and the fact that his owner (i have him on loan) was entirely honest with me about his quirks. i actualy fell off the first time i got on him but i thought nothing of gettin back on and the power i felt was just amazing he is so lovely on the ground which was a must for me so yeh

I had looked in the paper and overlooked her ad, a week later i went to see her, i hadnt wanted a grey mare, but when i seen her all skinny but with potential i said to my mum thats the one. She was hunted but no flat work and very responsive i knew she would learn quickly and she is an absolute dream, she is under working hunter pics and looks nothing like when i got her, and as she was skinny overlooked by others and a bargain

Lol katB! Thats why I bought my coloured, but regretted it fairly sharpish afterwards! My friend says, "Never buy a pretty horse. If it's ugly, bring it home." I couldn't quite stick to that, but looks definitely weren't something I was on the look out for when we bought my new boy.

my very dear friend (eaglestone) and my oh went to look at my boy for me...having had 2 upsets with others failing vettings etc i couldnt face seeing another. i was convinced to go up the next morning and even then i wasnt sure he was for me but my oh drove me around the corner and said i was mad if i let him get away. she was spot on and he is wonderful and i love him dearly.
