What NOT to forget when competing...

Another one; trailered ponies to favourite winter hack where they can have a blast and doesn't matter if we lose the light. Daughter forgot to put her girth in, her pony hates being ridden bareback so I volunteered my girth, she then had the gall to call me a wimp because I wouldn't canter down a steep hill and round a corner bareback on a wildly over excited pony.

My tack!! It was a rush to get there in time and I'd thrown the girth into the lorry and forgotten everything else. A complete stranger spotted me loading my horse as quickly as I had unloaded him and asked what had made me change my mind so quickly, so I had to mumble about being hopeless and forgetting the saddle and bridle - she knew the owners of the venue, grabbed my arm and dragged me across the lorry park to the house - she rang the doorbell and promptly strode off shouting at me to ask if they had anything I could borrow!! I was horrified but sadly they answered straight away and I had to confess my sad story to them.
They were absolutely lovely (luckily!) and raided their enormous tack room for me trying to find something that would fit him, handed me armfuls of leatherwork and bits to try and sent me on my way. I was ridiculously grateful and so was my horse, it was beautiful and quite fancy tack so it was so very kind of them - I made sure I returned it absolutely gleaming (because of course I'd remembered the tack cleaning kit..!)

Ah, that's fab :)

I forgot to put daughters SJ jacket in when she was competing at a qualifier for her RC, originally scheduled for the indoors 15 mins away but got moved to an outdoor venue 2 hours away. Only noticed when we got there. Unfortunately, or rather fortunately in our case, the weather was absolutely foul - very heavy horizontal rain, hail, sleet and snow and she was allowed to compete in her PC raincoat. Weather was so foul she had to stop three times as the jumps kept blowing off the uprights, and the one fence they had down was where they were jumping straight into the horizontal hail, poor pony clearly couldn't see where the jump was as the hail was the size of marbles and really stung us where we were stood still watching!
