Whenever I get a dog of my own, I will NOT be getting a Labrador....or, come to think of it, any dog which is big enough to jump up on sides, knock over metal bins or create utter, utter carnage wherever it goes

After the initial naughtiness when we moved in, our two girls have been very well behaved. We have a doggy door in our utility room, so when we are not here, they have free range over the garden and the utility itself (both garden gates are locked, so it is all secured.)
Anyway, we went out for a meal last night, and came back to find carnage in the garden

We had left two bin bags full of Christmas wrapping paper - no food, just paper - ready to be taken up the tip, and Dinnie, our youngest (6, so not a puppy!) had gone through and shredded the lot. She has also knocked over the heavy duty dustbin we have - no mean feat - and devoured 3 kilos of foreign finch mix

We cautiously left them both with the dog door open last night - normally we shut it when they go to bed - and it was just as well we did. My brother cleared up the lawn this morning, and there were eight bird-seed laden poos, which also contained evidence of paper, selotape and blood

I dont know why she does it; she can be as good as gold for months on end, and then every now and again she just blitzes and does things like this. We should have learnt by now - for she nearly killed herself twice as a puppy through her antics - but somehow you just expect them to grow out of it. She is a gorgeous girl in every other way, but this kind of carnage would be enough to put me off Labs for life

I have had two in the past who have gone crazy at various times and shredded and eaten everything in their path. My rotties do not chew anything. Not sure why I just got another lab, she is like nunu and hoovers everything in her path. However, I am hopeful that this one can be trained to the jedi good and not go to the dark side as I have had her from a puppy. The other two came at 2 1/2 yrs each...ok, so I may as well give up now, I know

Our lab ate chicken corn that was left in a bucket in the yard, she was pooing corn for days but it also irritated her bowl and she ended up on antibiotics for colitis.

Otto is a naughty little mutt, the only difference is he is sneaky

He used to be a bugger for counter surfing, but I caught him at the prime time and told him off and since then he has not even thought about it.

But the bin is a different matter. He doesn't bother with it normally, but if he sees you put something in there that he really wants (today it was soup soaked kitchen roll) he will wait, and then quietly nose the lid open and take it.

He then ruins it by being so proud of himself, he parades infront of you with whatever he has stolen!

But then he is 7 months old!

My Mum's cocker is 11 and still nicks from the bin! Dogs are oppourtunists, that's what happens when you give them the chance to misbehave!

Our lab will only shred and chew food items if they're left lying around, so she's pretty good but was a bit of a nightmare until she hit 2 years old

The great dane however

can reach the kitchen counters and pretty much anywhere else she wants

She also has a taste for carpets

She's lucky I love her to bits and am also hopeful that when she hits 2 she'll grow out if it (only another 10 months to go

Our girl was working bred too - both parents from strong working lines

Her mum was destructive as a puppy - chewing table legs, shoes, teddy bears (

never forgave her for destroying my beloved Virgil), but not really a scavenger...she was just an opportunist, and if you had left food lying around she'd take it, but she wouldnt ever purposefully climb up on sides and knock heavy bins over like Dinnie will

Dinnie just cant help herself. This morning she pulled the cat bed down off the side, just to see if there was any food behind it (there wasnt).
