As the title suggests, with it nearly being April and spring here, what type of rug is your horse out in the field at the moment? I have just changed my lad's rug for his medium rhino turnout.

Unrugged. Some are unclipped and been unrugged all year. Some have a short chaser type clip and have been gong out naked on sunny days for a couple of weeks now.

Both my full clipped ones are in HW, one will be going down to a MW tonight but the other wimpy one will stay in a HW for a couple more weeks.

Mine is in lightweight no fill turnout in day and lightweight stable rug at night. Only reason she isnt naked is cuz the wind is a bit chilly and she had a bath yesterday so would be all muddy if she went out naked.

Both of mine are out unrugged (on the edge of the Cairngorms) every day unless its rainy. That has included times when snow has been thigh deep! The older chap has MW stable rug at night, the Haffie has nothing. Neither are clipped tho (only the dog is!) More grooming but they dont get the same joy rollling and wriggling with a rug on as they do nudey! The big chap is 17, and is looking great despite 2 and a half months of snow cover here. The young girlie always looks a picture.

Unless its raining or theyre clipped, as long as there is forage or grass, I dont think horses need rugs. But I'm lucky, they and I are at home so I can attend to their every whim :-)

Mine are both unclipped TB's and have wintered out 24/7 in lightweight rugs. They are naked today, but tonight will have lightweight rain sheets on.

Mine are out in no fill lightweight rugs but have their med weights on over night in their stables as it's still very cold over night. Cant wait to have them out naked!! But hope they dont roll grrr!!

They have been in M/Ws overnight and naked in the daytime for the past few days. They used the M/Ws throughout the whole winter. Tonight I have switched them to their lightweights (pony and TBxConn in no fill, ISH in light filling). I can't wait for them to be naked full time! Just how they should be. :)

None of mine have a stitch on.... although none are clipped so they have their own woolies on:D

two big 'uns were fully clipped but are now 99% in summer coats and both had a 350gm stable rug with 350gm combo turnouts on top today.
unclipped shetland was in 300gm combo.

DISCLAIMER:none are sweaty, itchy, too hot, uncomfortable in any way and they all look a picture.

have heard its meant to get rainy and windy again, but if it warms up any more will drop off the under rug and pop shetty in to his MW normal neck.

have just ordered some MW full necks for the biggies so hopefully they will arrive soon as weather seems to be warming up day by day.

IDxTB very good doer and always quite a warm horse... fully clipped out about 3 weeks ago but more or less has his summer coat now... In a no fill LW TO (no neck) during the day, if it stays warm next week and isn't raining, he will start going out naked. Overnight he has been having a 110g stable rug (no neck) on but tonight just has a fleece as it's still 12C.

He has enough to eat to keep him warm if the temperature drops a bit and given he's such a good doer, I prefer him to be on the cooler side / less rugs.

The pony is unclipped so day and night is in nowt but her 3" of fluff. Horse is fully freshly clipped so has been in Rambo heavy weight turnout with snuggy hood in the day and summer sheet, medium weight stable and heavy weight up neck stable at night. Today was lovely so no snuggy hood and a medium weight turnout with neck (nearly regretted that when grooming tonight) and a medium stable and heavy stable up neck tonight. Sure it will change back tomorrow or friday as meant to be grotty.

Still in 370gm combo rug - if it's warm when she comes in (only out for the morning) then the neck will be folded back and put back up about 5pm. If this mild weather continues then will go to unlined + 200g liner with unlined neck.

Some of the others on the yard are now in 100g no necks, some still in 450g heavy weight with necks

Both of ours went into MWs today, thena, fell, has a half neck and Roger has a full no fill neck.
They are fully clipped and there is a really cold wind blows across the field.

Both my boys are naked and really enjoying having a proper roll and giving each other a good groom! They just can't get to all their itches the same with a rug on.

Unclipped TB in 200g overnight and naked during the day. Going to take his rug off completely once we've had the rain we're promised.

Fully clipped hunter in 200g overnight and LW during day with no neck. His coat has almost grown back but didn't want to shock him too much by taking rug off completely seeing as he's spent all winter in a 300g!!

Both out 24 7 and loving it esp. as little green shoots are appearing. Can't wait for rain and then sunshine - the grass will grow and grow!!
