Hi,

I'm a new poster and (relatively) new to equestrianism, and I was wondering if anybody could recommend a good place to get rugs for my horse, or any good brands I should look for (good price and/or quality, I don't know which I prefer yet!)

For reliability and a huge selection plus fast delivery and no quibbles with returns, I've had great service from both Equestrian Clearance and Old Dairy Saddlery.
I WOULD have recommended Ride Away wholeheartedly but apparently they have been sold out and are no longer as good, several people on here have had bad experiences I believe.
I do like Premier Equine but IMO they are expensive for what you get (wait till Spring for their Winter rug sale, or Autumn for their Summer rug sale, if you want one of their rugs - usually half price or sometimes less!)
I have also had a lovely exercise sheet from Swish who only sell direct to the public - keeps costs down, and a friend swears by Ruggles, another smaller company with a good family reputation.

Premier Equine for me too. If you follow them on facebook you'll see the different deals coming up as they are a bit expensive but top quality rugs.

Equestrian Clearance for different makes. I recommend Weatherbeeta and Amigo if you're not looking to spend all your money on them. Swish Equestrian for their own brand that are excellent and they have some great sales.

I find that as long as I buy rugs with high denier material they last well even if they are not known brands. I bought a rug of ebay that was by a make called 'Axiom' the rug was 1800d & was £50, it's now on it's fourth year on my boy in a herd of playful geldings! I also like the Horsewear range, quite expensive but I love it.

I'm another PE fan. I bought my lads' trio for £104 about three years ago in the sale. Still going strong and very flexible with its changeable linings. I got a 300g T/O for £56.00 and a fleece for £9.99.

I get the emails with their daily discounts on. I hope this doesn't affect their sale at the end of the season as it is usually great for bargains.

PE also, but wait until they have their end of season sale. So buy your winter rugs at the end of winter and the summer rugs at the end of summer. They will survive in the garage for a season.

You can also pick up great bargains on ebay. I bid for and won for one rug from a lady who lived locally and then ended up buying about 4 from her when I went to pick it up. She had just sold the horse they fitted and didn't fit the new one.

I'm a big fan of the Axiom rugs too, I've also got one that is on it's 5th winter. The people on ebay who sell them are brilliant too, always very helpful.
