My horse is living out at the moment it's fairly warm do you put rugs on overnight? Just would be interested to know what people do

Mine haven't been rugged for ages apart from the odd wet night when they still had some winter coat, all appear to be fine and have shown no sign of dissolving in the rain yet!!
The only time I rug in the summer is if the rain persists for 24 hours or if one was unwell, they love the chance to be naked and I like not messing about with rugs every day.

Unless i know it's going to rain I put mine in fly rugs as the flies can be very bad in the early evening and first thing in the morning. If I know it's going to rain then if it's going to be warm I leave them naked and if the temp is going to really drop I put a rain sheet on as i usually ride first thing and don't want a wet horse. I use the BBC weather site, it's not always accurate but at least it gives me a more local picture.

Yes too warm. One of mine has sweet itch and I feel dreadful putting him out in his rug when its so hot, but best thing for him I suppose :(

That's the answers I was hoping for my boy is left in his fly rug they give drizzle in the morning but I guess that won't harm.

It depends :) mine are on a tiny bare paddock that is completely exposed, so if it is windy and rainy they have their rain sheets on overnight, or they come in shaking - ridiculous!

Mines been naked since Feb with the occasional rain sheet if I made it in time to get it in him before it rained. He occasionally has a fly sheet if I can force him into it as he doesn't love the flies and fly spray tickles him lol. Even if it rains now I tend to leave him naked as its still so warm and half the time the weather lies to me anyway.

Mine are out 24/7, they have fly rugs if it's warm or humid and naked otherwise. I've only put their rainsheets on if it's been hosing down for hours - once or twice in the last few months, we've been lucky so far this year :) Fly masks are glued to their heads though

It depends where you live, doesn't it? Mine have had their light outdoor rugs on in the day and were in at night until about 3 weeks ago and were only left out overnight rugless last week. Admittedly one has been off-colour a bit and the other is over 20 but we have had temperatures down to 2 degrees at night a few weeks ago. I have to say I have never kept mine in so late in the year before.

2 of mine are naked in this sort of warm rainy weather, and I've just bought my 25 yr old sweet itch pony a waterproof fly rug - it's fantastic, keeps his top line dry in the rain (he can't stand getting wet!) and keeps the flys off when it's warm - he's not so bad that he needs a Boett type rug, as long as the top of his tail is covered he's happy! He doesn't seem to be getting too hot in it but he hasn't had it on in very warm weather yet so I'll have to see how it goes.
