One of my horses has a blanket clip and he's out at night with a mediumweight turnout on and a summer sheet during the day when he's in. My retired thoroughbred who isn't clipped is out in a lightweight turnout and naked in the stable during the day.

Hope that helps

Mine is fully clipped (legs on) and is wearing a 100g no neck turnout day and night (cause I'm a bad owner who doesn't do stable rugs). Went and bought this at the weekend as clipped her but feel it is still too warm for her 200g medium with neck.

At the moment in Kent its around 12 during the day, maybe a little more, and it drops to about 8 at night, sometimes feeling around 4/5.

So Leo is currently in a l/w turnout if its raining, otherwise naked, and a l/w stable at night (he gets quite chilly). but once I clip him, he will move up to medium weights. :)

Mine all in 200g fill ones (no neck)... it is warm but as soon as they get wet they shiver, even with LW's on :0(

My two are still out and unclipped with 200g on at night and naked during the day unless its raining then I'll pop their rain sheets on during the day.

My 3 tbs have medium weights on 24/7 tho may rug one of them up a bit more! They are all unclipped and could wear up to 8/9 layers in really cold weather!

My fully clipped TB (legs left on) is wearing a medium weight during the day (sometimes with a neck, but without if its warmer), and at night in his stable has been wearing a medium with no neck. Last night he wore a fleece under his medium as it went down to 3 degrees.

30 year old pony and 18month filly are out during the day, in at night, both naked :) I usually rug the old boy up more but he is so hairy and gets itchy which I think is from being too warm so going to stick it out and leav him naked as long as poss (I keep checking his armpits to see how he feels).

Ours are all in mediumweights, we have had thick white frost the last few mornings :( none are clipped, some are out, some are in, all nice & cosy.

My 15yr old TB is currently in a lightweight combo turnout during the day, and a thicker fleece at night. He's unclipped and will probably stay that way throughout the winter.

Both my warmbloods are in lw during the day and a fleece at nite. It's not that cold yet I don't think and want them to feel the benefit when we hit minus degrees

Mine is unclipped, in and has a light fleece on. Its not really cold enough for a heavier rug, she isn't ever cold when I go to her and she won't feel the heat of a heavy rug when it is properly cold.

Shauna's pony still has his rain sheet on, spirit is not rugged at the min. I need to drive to cork to buy rugs for shaunas pony, so will clip next week, and they will be rugged properly then. I have a mare here for a friend to be broken at the minute, she's stabled at the moment, but once she's backed, she'll be ledt off for the winter. Due to unforseen circumstances, I will have the mare for my friend for the winter, as she wont be clipped, would a lightweight or even medium weight be ok for her??
Saw this today, thought it was funny

Mine has 2 no fill rain sheets on, one with a neck. He is fully clipped bar legs and half a head and is out 24/7. He is checked at different times each day and so far has been toasty warm and isn't dropping condition :)

My chap has a blanket clip with a heavyweight stable rug on for when hes in and a medium weight stable rug with lightweight-mw turnout rug on underneath for when hes out.

Do think hes a bit over rugged already, think he has a couple of 'too warm' hours but won't get cold when temperatures drop overnight.

When is it summer?

My fully clipped hunter has a lw (100g) turnout on, my old tb isn't rugged :) I did put a mw on my hunter the other night but mother phoned me at 6am to say she was sweating underneath it  The tb has had a rain sheet on over the summer if it's been grim but now she's growing her coat she doesn't need it :) They both live out 24/7 with yard/stables/shelter as they want :)

He's from Oz :)

When I was in PC I had a NZ tb that had been imported 4 years earlier - he never did grow a winter coat despite our best efforts! (he didn't hunt and was turned away for the winter, none of the other tbs were rugged but he really never did grow a full coat!)

My 2 tb aren't clipped but neither grows a winter coat. Both are in mw to in day (they both feel the cold and will stand and shiver) and mare is in a lw stable rug and gelding id in a fleece and lw stable rug.
May seem excessive but they really do feel the cold. My gelding especially.

No rug on my lovelie! He needs to grow his thick woolley mammouth coat and he will winter out with that and no rugs.
