I'm sat here in awe at some of these horses being out in 700g of rugs? What on earth are they going to be in if we do get the -15 temps that have been forecast?
My boy (Welsh c x) is unclipped and hasn't got his full winter coat through yet. He's in a 200 full neck and was cold this morning so may bring out the 350g until his full coats through.
Dales/Welsh X furry beast - unclipped unrugged out 24/7. Toastie this morning despite the icicles on her whiskers! But she does have no fill Premier Equine rug if rain sets in again. Cold & dry she does - Wet and cold she doesn't.
unclipped tb in med no neck, except last two nights as its been freezing and she was cold i popped on her cooler and h/w with neck and was nice and toasty but not HOT... but with warmer weather coming again she'll go back to med no neck
Newly reclipped (total body, neck and half face clip) sport horse with high percentage of wuss/pansy and very fine coat is out in three rugs today . . . an underrug (no neck), a M/W NZ with neck and a rainsheet over the top (largely to protect the M/W from his marauding, rug-shredding fieldmates) and he is warm as toast. He wore this combo to bed too - see no point in taking warm rugs off to replace with cold ones. Before he was reclipped and still had some coat on his neck he was out without neck cover just to get some air to his coat and save his mane and he coped fine.
Sensitive TB, now its minus figures she has her headless snuggy hood, witney blanket and two medium weights, plus magnetic boots on all 4 legs (she has her neck and belly clipped). Connemara x Welsh pony fully clipped has on his snuggy hood (with face and ears) and thick heavyweight with full neck. Snug as bugs in rugs!!!!
ISH has a blanket clip and is in a medium full neck with a fleece and PRE has a medium with a neck but he still has a spanish summer coat on but hes quite a warm horse... got quite cold the other night (-9) where they are kept but they were both warm under their rugs so im not changing them into heavier if they are fine in mediums
