What rugs are your natives in (if any)

My 16yo nf who is prone to losing weight in the winter and is in no way a good doer is currently wearing a MW with a LW on-top, was thinking of putting his heavy-weight on soon.

What are your natives in??
 
Our welsh d mares who are not in work this winter (having just had their foals weaned from them) are naked and hairy!

NF gelding is also naked fat and hairy.

Retired ancient dales mare is in medium rug.

Welsh d mare who is in work with a chaser clip has a fleece and medium rug on.
 
My oldie Section B is in a full neck med weight NZ, the others, Section D and Section A are going without but they are in a field with access to plenty of shelter so even though we are on a mountain they will be fine! My IDxArab mare has a med weight NZ on outside and nothing inside as she trashed her stable rug!
 
mine are in rhino pony rugs with neck covers and stable rugs underneath - med/heavy weight as all are clipped and in light/med work.

However I only clip once in the year around end Oct and let the coat come thru again for the very cold months of dec/jan/feb - that way I also get rid of the clipping lines earlier in the year instead of having clipping lines still visible in May.
 
My 2 and 3 yr old Shetland mares are naked.
We are minus 18 today and they are out most nights.
I bring them in for snow and wind and definately if we are forecast freezing rain.
Most of the nights I bring them in is more for my benefit - so I will sleep and not worrry too much - and not for theirs.
They look like mini wooly mamoths.
 
My retired pony is in a medium weight turnout, she normally has it upped to a heavyweight but at the moment is doing really well
 
My Welsh D is in a heavyweight Qualtex as of this morning. Up til then it was a mediumweight Weatherbeeta. Normally he wouldn't have been out of his MW til it started to snow but he didn't really grow much of a winter coat this year due to being stabled at the beginning of the winter with laminitis so his coat never really came in as well as usual.

My native type pony has a hunter clip so in a HW + fleece/under rug depending how cold. However he is a good-doer and looks slightly porky.

Shetlands live out and are naked - they have a field shelter.
 
21yr old welsh D retired with a bib clip (due to a skin infection) is naked and thriving on it - this is her first year out unclipped and unrugged (although he's used to being out 24/7) and he looks far far too well - no feed, no hay, sharing a field with 3 others and it's not a huge field, no artificial shelter, just good hedges and they all look fab!
 
My Welsh x tb is out in his Rambo Duo outer (100g) today as its 8degrees, still as a millpond and dry. He's unclipped and is a VERY good doer, though he doesn't believe me on that one (poor starved beastie

Max he has on overnight at the moment is 300g, and that's if it drops below 3degrees/ freezing. He has a 400g and a 450g for if its really lousy with horizontal rain/sleet/snow and wind as he prefers to be out than in but has access to his stable at all times.
I tend to rug according to how he feels, rather than deciding beforehand.
He also soon tells me if he doesn't want a rug on at all- today would have been one of those days but I'm at work and can't get home if it starts to rain- he melts in the rain, apparently....

He's out on loan now but if I had him at home he would be fully clipped (inc legs probably) and in a med weight (200-250g) with full neck. Even fully clipped he only needs a heavier rug when it gets really really cold. He's a Welsh D BTW.
 
My Welsh D had a hunter clip a while ago so although it's grown in quite a bit its still not thick thick (he's now having his Dec/Jan break). So he'll have his rug off on any nice days but right now with it being so damn freezing he's in his WB Orican standard neck.

My other 2 natives - a Welsh X Highland is naked. Rugs always slip on him so I only put his WB Orican on if its really bad weather! And the shetland actually gets a little rug on but only because she's old nowadays and getting a bit stiff.
 
My fatty welsh d x is out in a heavyweight as its frosty all day here, not above 3 or 4 in the day, about -2 at night.
feel like she should be in her medium weight to get some more weight off her as she's cresty. However she's losing weight and condition elsewhere so she's all toasty!
She was full clipped at the end of october so its grown back quite a lot (more on her neck as i took off her neck rug when she stopped working due to lameness) she's also out 24/7, plus some haylage to keep her toasty too.
 
Lady a Welsh B x Arab, has just had her medium weight rug on.
Fudge who is a Welsh D is in a heavy weight with a neck cover.
Both are still out at night and in and naked during the day and either are clipped.
 
Daisy was given a hunter clip at half term but it has almost grown out so she is out in her lw at the moment. I know that sounds terrible but it is what works for her. She really is a hairy yeti
 
NF was in a fleece at night, but seems warmer without it on.

Has been out in the day in the last couple of days naked, because it's been pretty mild. Will rug her when it turns chilly though.
