It is 16 degrees but very windy and rainy! Is it ok that hun has her heavy on? She has a very thin coat and it is pretty cold! What rugs have you gt on your gei geis? 

Mine had none on, then 2 of them came in shivering so have now got fleeces on to help dry them off! But then I do have slightly overweight, chunky types. I doubt if I'd have any horse in more than a medium, but it honestly depends on what the horse is used to, only you know your horse.

my TB had a lightweight turnout on today (bless he got soaked!) and is wearing a cotton sheet tonight. If the wind wasn't so strong he'd probably have nothing on.

16degrees isn't cold. Unless she is very under weight with no shelter at all from wind i wouldn't have anything more than water proof rain sheet on, if either of above or rain sheet not water proof i would maybe put a medium on but i do have a 100g i would use. My thin skinned tb is only in a rain sheet he is toasty in it if it wasn't for rain he would be naked.

my little girl has a lightweight turnout on because her clip is just growing back. but i wanted to put her medium weight with neck on but its too warm where i am for it

Mine has her medium weight neckless rug on, just because her lightweight wouldnt hold out under all this rain.

AS is the mediumweight is pretty soaked, so might be switching to her medium combo when i go up later

Nothing on any of them.
Its june.
Its wet

BUT:
its 15/16 degrees out there where we are & not going to be lower than 12 overnight
Also, they have plenty of tree & hedge shelter.
The forecast is for it to stop mid/late evening (its stoped & sun is out at present)
The wind will dry them as its not cold!

The 3 fuzzys are perfectly happy, particularly giant fuzzy - who used to be a bigpoof-bags & has learnt to 'man up' (thanks Hovis for the recollection of your words!)

:)

My two have mediums on, the lightweights did not withstand all the rain yesterday! Their field is by the sea so the wind is pretty wicked, although its warm they'd be cold naked!

None and although my biggest ginger hates being cold and wet he has led me a merry dance for the past half hour following him round the field with a rug so I have decided that he has had every opportunity and I have left him out naked.

i hv 4 yr old tb and 3yr old tbxid both naked i rushed over to get them in this afternoon thinking "poor darlings will be soaked n sulking" both horses stood in middle of paddock munching in no rush to come in. The majority are more robust than we give them credit for.

Nothing! He lives out 24/7 and only wears a rug when it's very cold, and a lightweight at that. Just been over to see him - none of the horses are anywhere near the field shelter&dont look bothered in the slightest!

 It's 25C out there.

The horses are choosing to stand under sprinklers and I have the a/c on in the house.

My horse blankets are in a big pile by the barn door waiting to be washed and repaired for winter.

Hunni, if your horse is cold then rug her as you feel appropriate :) All horses are different. I used to have the worlds wussiest arab, he'd lose weight in a summer shower and I used to put a LW on him practically every night.

As long as shes not wet underneath the rug she'll be fine! Mine three are exactly the same as Tequila and there fine! :)

I'm not wearing any rugs, I find it very difficult to get them to fit me well :D

Beasts aren't either, it's not cold...

Tried putting a rug on Alfie - he got too hot very quickly - took it off again, oh well he has the hedge and loads of grass, i'm sure he'll be fine! Maisie, again, nothing, she is only rugged in the depths of winter, she has plenty of cover to keep herself warm and a good hedge and trees. Moses - In tonight, welsh cob DOESN'T do rain and wind!! Has his lightweight on to stop him damaging his tail too much when he scratches his butt!!

My paddocks are very open, but they seem to cope well.

My 5 yr old has his medium weight neck on, he's quite a hot horse but his lightweight was soaked through from last night and he is grey so has to wear something ;-) particularly as I have dressage on Saturday!! The tb was shivering when i went down today (bless) he has his medium weight neck on that is abit old and tired and his lightweight sheet on top so the old one doesn't soak through ;-) they are both happy in the field.we are by the beach so it is VERY windy!!

Op, put whatever rug on you think is necessary for your horse. It may be June, but having just seen the severe weather warnings in place for the majority of the country I wouldn't criticise anyone for popping a rug on thier horse.

I wouldn't hesitate to rug my horse if I felt they needed it - whatever time of year.

mine has a fleece and lightweight, she did have a lightweight on but i rode her and we got drenced so had to put the fleece on to wick her off a bit both of our girls were rugless but we found them huddling under a small tree so put their rugs on and they are much happier out in the middle of the field munching away - there isnt much shelter in the field - i've also put a rug on because i want to ride tomorrow and it doesnt look like the rain is stopping . . .

Buds is nudey tonight, but tbh he is overweight so a night of shivering int gonna harm him ;) If the rain gets very heavy and driving then he'll have a lw on if he really feels cold.

My tb mare has been in a medium weight t/o as the sheet was soaked from last night and tonight she is in as we ate expecting gales and she has no shelter in her paddock and all the others are in. Shes got a fleece on tonight as she was soaked and shivering. My tb gelding has a medium weight neck on as i have "borrowed" his sheet for the mare

It's been throwing it down all day but ours are out in lightweights (no fill). My delicate one has a full neck no fill, as although it's raining, it's not that cold compared to winter when I use medium and heavy weight rugs. They're all soaked but will be coming inside soon so I can put waffle weave / fleeces on them if they need it.

All of ours have LWs on (1 connie, 1 welsh cob x and 2 shetlands).

I'm sure some would have left them naked seeing as they are natives etc. but they all came over shaking the other day (and they have access to shelter ) and are much happier now :)

Mare has a rainsheet on as she is a wuss. Yearling is naked and will have to tough it out. he is out with other youngstock and rugs just mean something to get caught up in.

Mine would have had a lightweight on but he couldn't be bothered to get up this morning so had to stay in his medium.

First horse is 15hh traddie cob. Clipped out coz he's always very hairy even in the summer & has sweet itch. So wears SI hoody underneath, then on top is his "mackintosh" - a Weatherbeeta light turnout.

Second horse: Welsh D mare. Not clipped. Is just wearing lightweight summer turnout rug, as above.

Their field is quite exposed, but there is a hedge they can stick their bums against the wind & rain.

My full TB was out naked today and yesterday. When I brought him in just now it had been raining for a few hours straight and he was fine, not best impressed  :D but temperature-wise he wasn't really cold. Did put a full neck fleece on for the night as he was wet and whereas out in the field he can move around/be in the sun (in between showers!) to dry off and keep warm, I don't like the idea of him standing wet and chilly in the stable overnight.

My general rule of thumb is to rug when it's due to be under about 10 degrees C overnight- however I left him in a stable sheet a few nights ago, only forecast to get down to about 12 degrees, came down in the morning and he was cold! :o So am maybe rugging up a little more ATM than I would, his weight is fine currently but don't really want him shivering any of it off. Generally though I hate the idea of overrugging and am much more likely to be looking out of the window, seeing slightest glimpse of sun and wishing I'd left him naked, rather than seeing a few drops of rain and thinking 'MUST GET THE MEDIUMWEIGHT OUT!' :D I 100% agree with rugging appropriately to the weather and to the individual horse but don't really see why rain = mediumweight/layers of rugs automatically, even if it's 17/18 degrees.
Wow look at that- sorry I could go on for hours about rugging :o

Nothing. Theyre fine, I just got in now from checking them and everyone is quite happy. Theyve got shelter if they want it but all were out grazing in the middle of the field in the rain.
