What should male riders wear?

Just wondering what everyone thinks...as jodhs are not entirely aesthetically pleasing on men (no offence to men intended).
Chaps? Or what looks ok?
Advice needed....for a friend starting riding.

Personally, I think it's more sensible that men should ride side saddle, I'm sure your friend would look most fetching in a habit.

I am not buying a sidesaddle so he can look fetching as he indulges his transvestite tendencies - far too expensive.

Breeches and I wear chaps or gaiters when riding. I used to wear jods (yuk) but that was a while ago now thank goodness!

Bloke in question is refusing to wear anything resembling jodhs...or to learn anything with the word 'dressage' involved...is there anything else he could wear under chaps that wouldn't damage his accessories

Trundle and clipertyplop - please leave this thread immediately and find a man...your posts make me suspect you are suffering a shortage at present

Mincingpie - if he wears jeans under chaps, will they have....er...unfortunate effects? Do they have to be stretchy jeans?

I hope the ladies on this thread appreciate I am trying to spare them from the sight of another male in nasty jodhs...

I suppose, jeans and chaps at first then (with supportive undies

) and then try to get him some decent breeches later.
Prilly - fear not! He has no intentions of the skin tight jodh thing....and I wouldn't let him

I'm sure you can guess who wants to ride, then PNE?
I'm trying to spare you the horror of my OH in jodhs...I hope you're grateful!

If he wants to wear jeans, you buy the 'cowboy' ones (wrangler I think?). if you log onto the american sites they have jeans designed for men to wear riding which are comfier than regular jeans.

My ex used to wear jodhs - he was very tall and skinny with knobbly knees and he looked a right sight... not that I ever told him mind, he was very vain and fancied himself the next WFP because he'd once jumped 3'6 on a gradeA showjumper (I say 'jumped' - he sat and hung on whilst this extremely experienced horse carried him carefully over the fence but there was no telling him after that)

Thanks for ruining my life

Well, it's best you know.
You're on a loser either way - either you wear jods, protect your...ahem...assets from damage only to find no one is interested in them.......OR you wear jeans, attract women...only to find your assets rubbed raw and non functional.
Life is tough, huh? But at least we women are always sympathetic to your pain.

PNE - I think you need to join the others who I banished from this thread for lascivious behaviour...they're off stalking men, now I think.
I'm not convinced by your points either...but of course, I am far too civilised to look at mens' bottoms.
