I'm 5'8'' and have two 15.1's, a 15.2 and a 15.3.
Would like them bigger probably, but as they are all polocrosse ponies the size has to be kept to a minimum to do the job properly!
I'm 5'5 ish and my horse is a fairly narrow 15.3 TB. I also ride a quite fine 14.2 which I don't feel too big on and occasionally get on my sisters 13.1 (she's a welsh though so pretty chunky and takes my leg up well although I do feel a bit big on her!)
I think a lot of the time it's as much about the shape of a horse as its size. I probably look pretty similar on my guy as I did on my loan horse who was a 15hh cob.
my mare is 14hh and i am 5ft4in but i prefer riding ponies anyway so i dont want to go bigger lol. i was told that i looked nice on a 15.2 but i ride ponies better
I'm 5'6" and my boys a little 11.2hh!
Yes we look silly but i have great fun and he's not suitable fr children so hey?
Looking for a bigger one now though.
I'm 5'1" and I have been since I was about 11 LOL. I could still get away with riding ponies, that is why I was gutted when I had to sell all my pony showjumpers as I hadn't grown out of them I was just too old to compete them!!! Being small is great for backing, I find myself chucked up on everything because I don't weigh much!! I also do a lot of schooling and breaking ponies because I can!! The only reason i did sj is because I was so small and a lot of showjumpers are too so I don't look out of place!!! Now I am doing dressage I feel like a midget surrounded by lots of beampole's as they all seem to be very tall and thin with really long legs!! I don't exactly have the tall, elegant look, but it doesn't matter if you are effective with your aids!
When it comes to horses I have rode absolutely every size and even though I am small I feel most at home on a big 17hh warmblood, I don't know why, I look like a pea on a mountain, but I find it much easier to do sitting trot and you seem to have more time to do the movements and jumping a big powerful scopey horse is amazing.
If i wanted a horse for hacking and local shows I would buy a 14.2hh, but for big showjumping, you look out of place if you are on a horse under 16hh and the horse can struggle also. I would much sooner be on a big 17hh that finds it easy and doesn't even notice you are on its back, of course there are plenty of sucessful 15hh's but I don't like to approach a fence that is bigger than my horse!
At the moment my smallest horse is 16hh and my biggest horse is 17hh. But you don't get many horses with donnerhall/Negro/Ferro breeding that are small!
I like my horses like my men; big, muscly and cocky!!! LOL
im 6ft - Archie is 17'3 and the perfect size for me (i have very long legs). Blossy is 16'1 and a bit small for me, altho shes very chunky so can pull off my height a bit better on her than a skinny 16'1.
I'm 5'2" and my horse is 16.1 - she was at the very upper end of the height range when I was looking. TBH I feel she's a bit big for me and I find her quite hard to get her together. Saying that I love her to bits and wouldn't change her for the World.
I rode a 14 hand horse recently and he was a bit small although brilliant fun !! Equibeau that's a lovely photo !!! awwww
I'm 5'4" and 3/4!!!!!!
I ride a 14.2 Irish Cob and don't feel I'm too big for him.
However, he is VERY short backed, and my saddle is 17.5", so wish he was slightly longer...but i think that's what makes him such a fantastic jumper!
I had a sit on my friend's 17hh chunky hunter recently, and it felt WAY too far from the ground for my liking...but i do suffer from Vertigo
I used to have a 16.1hh IDx, and he was way too big and strong for me
Prev to that, I had a 16.1 TB, and i felt right on him, but i prefer the chunky types.
I am 5ft 7 and pickle is 17.1hh, basically have such a big horse because I share him with my 6ft 3 dad! I dont mind it though I like the feeling of power
I am 5ft 9 and Hannah is 16.2hh IDxTB so quite well built, and Grace is just over 17hh when last measured... I look right on both heights and wouldn't buy a horse less than 16.2hh for myself as I have quite long legs
My pony is 13.3 and im 5ft5. Ive had her from 6 months old and she was just supposed to be a pet until a 3yr old, then i thought id just break her and then well the rest is history. Ive had her 7 years and ill never part with her. Im not heavy 8 1/2 stone
and shes a welsh so she can handle me. Also she knows no different cos no one smaller than me has ever ridden her properly.
Ponies rule!!!
Id never buy anything above 15hh for me now. Ponies are soo easy!
Reading through a lot of these replies it seems I have to get rid of my 14.1, get myself an 18hh hunter, then claim I feel too big on it because I am *shock horror* 5'7"
Quite frankly, I am shocked at WHY shorter people think they look too big on 16.2hhs?!?
Well, we have a lot of variation on here, dont we?! I must now state that I also have that all important extra half inch!! but didnt want to look childish!! however, I am 5'3 1/2" just for the record. AND, as Tia hilariously mentioned, I have little short legs, grrrr!

Bounty I like the look of your polocrosse ponies - what's their breeding?
I am 5ft 5. My boy is 15.1 (only 3yo - will be maybe 15.2 at maturity). A lot of people my height on here seem to have much bigger horses! But I'm only 6 stone and quite feeble, so probably wouldn't really want him to be much bigger. Especially as he's a very lively stallion and I haven't ridden for over a decade!
As this pic shows, my boy thinks he is MUCH bigger than 15.1:
