I voted bib/apron, but its kind of my own made up style of clip!! He wont let me do his girth area without sedation, so i am just making that do him cause i am sick of vets fees!
My working horse has a full clip with a saddle patch left on. Why because he is doing a fair amount of work & does sweat badly as he's a naturally hot horse which is a pain.
He did have his legs & head on until recently but im trying to smarten him up ready for regionals in Feb.
Hunter clip with a lozenge for the saddle patch, legs on because of mud fever and face on because I don't think he needs it off (even though it may look nicer that way). He competes all year round and gets very hairy if I don't clip neck and body off.
Full, except for legs, half a head plus small patch round his withers. Smart, saves too much sweating/ drying off and no worries about losing all that hair every time you groom in the Spring.
Irish, because that clears hair off the bits that sweat up the most, and because she doesn't work hard enough, often enough to justify taking the lot off.
Full, everything off including legs and saddle patch, but i stop at her bridle line on her face as she had an accident in the summer and injured her eye so I can't get any closer to it to do her face.
Taking her legs off has really helped her mud fever though (touches wood!) as I can dry her legs with a towel when she comes in and keep them cleaner.
Blanket. Mine is a cob-X who is naturally very warm and sweats up easily. She has not made it past 200g rug warmth even with this clip and the temperature dropping well below zero! Even had a heat rash the other night?! Daft horse!
When ground is not frozen/under ice/snow, she is worked 5 times a week.
every hair off, inc heads and legs for all adults( 5+) that are competing,
4 year olds and ex racer, high traces as they dont need to look as good or do as much work.
Full, well legs left on and half heads, on all 6 that includes 11hh, its what works for us and I cant stand hair everywhere when they get their summer coats
Low Trace as she isnt doing much work, infact she has done no work for 2 weeks and she is living out this winter.
In the spring she might get a full clip (legs and all) when she starts competing again and so I dont have to cope with a moult!
Well, pretty much full, is very patchy on her elbows and tummy. Couldn't bothered paying for sedation as not going anyway but will probably have her doped so can do a proper clip as the last one of the season, just not sure how soon to do this.
Hunter: all off except legs, half head, and a saddle patch. Can't be arsed doing legs (plus he has the lumpiest legs known to equines - the hair disguises most of their horror
), horse has to be sedated to do the head so I don't bother. Have done two this year, the second one seems to be lasting nicely.
A couple of blankets in October & November, then usually a hunter after Christmas, End Jan/Feb. I went for blanket in the poll as I usually do 2 of those and only 1 hunter!
