Hmm, well I haven't a clue! I think a mixture of all but the obsessive one. Used to be more competitive as a kid/teenager I guess when in PC etc (and when i wasn't payoing for it!) now, more leisure/pleasure and somedays think life would be much easier without horse but then I wonder what on earth i would do with my time!?! I like competing but more for fun or at an amateur level really. Maybe, when I back my youngster this year it will bring out my competitive side again - am waiting to find out what 'job' he'd prefer (I am hoping jumping of some description!!). As family we have always 'collected' (easy when you have your own land) and as a result only two of our 5 are under the age of 20! If I had an endless supply of money and didn't have to work full time I imagin I would spend more time with the horses ad competing to be honest - oh to win the lottery!

Lesiure & Pleasure- bordering on obsesive!

I don't ride that much, so not really competative but for me it's just having the horses, rather than 'just' riding. Although I think it's because it was drummed into me from an early age that riding is what you do after all the caring for/ chores.

Mind you, I'd probably be a collector if it wasn't for hubby being awkward... er I mean sensible!

Top 3. I'm doing an equine degree so lots of my time is spent horseying and lots of my friends are horsey. But I love competing it gives me my motivation to improve and I really miss it when I cant. But I also wouldnt be without my boy if I couldnt compete and would probably enjoy the odd project from time to time just to keep me busy.

Im an Obsessive collector with dreams of competing...

Ive got 6 horses, work my bottom off at uni and working but still make time to look after my horses.

All I think about is horses and thats all that is getting me through my degree as it will mean after another 2 years of study after I have qualified in 2 years, I can eventually work with horses! :)

"obsessive", live and breath and talk nothing but horses. They are at the stables every spare minute either riding, mucking out or doing other bits but have no life or friends outside the horsey world.

"competition crew" highly competitive and live to show and compete, if they couldn't they wouldnt keep a horse. The horse is a working animal not a pet (although this does NOT mean they don't care for it!!) These guys train everyday regardless of weather conditions!

"leisure and pleasure" these see their horse everyday, but dont feel guilty if they dont ride for a few days and have a life and hobbies other than horses too. They tend to hack, do lessons and take part in local RC comps through the summer - going for a social and gossip session is seen as more important than winning!!

"collector" - has about 12 horses and 3 full time jobs and not enough time in the day!!

I have been all of the above at one stage or another!!

Obsessive until I was about 19,
then I became competitive for a couple of years until my comp mare had to be retired,
then I just became a collector of generally 'broken' horses, taking care of the ones that had been disregarded by those in the couldn't care less crew
and finally I am a leisure and pleasure since having my daughter, I see my boy every day but only very very randomly get to actually do something with him!

Obsessive and competitive. I love my horse but he must do his job. I get wet often trying to train for a show. I love competing so much I dream about winning for the week before show lol.
I have a family but no friends outside horses. Rarely go out even to dinner with those horsey friends. However any spare moment in day is with horsey at night is researching horses online, lots of videos, forums sale pages you get the drift. :D

Leisure/competition mix.

Mine is on part livery as i cant fit it in every day but hate it if i cant ride and am not one for not riding if its raining etc will go out in all weathers thanks to my trusty barbour although horse would prefer to stay dry. Am not really competative with others but i like to go out and do the best we can and if we get placed etc then thats a bonus, love to see my friends doing well even if they beat me not bothered. I dont like it if we dont compete, feel lost without that focus.

A bit between Leisure and Pleasure and obsessive!

I have plenty of non horsey friends though and good social life away from the yard, always have done. I ride for pleasure and am not particularly competitive I do compete all year round weather permitting but just local unaff. I always feel guilty if I can't ride as horse has to be kept slim and fit, so I do ride at least 4 times a week in winter and 6 in summer and will ride in all weathers!

Am DIY and work full time so am always at the yard and worry constantly about horses weight, lami etc

I am definitely in the L&P Camp with a slight obsession with certain aspects of horse-care... namely hoof-health & equine metabolism... wouldn't have happened had I had a "normal" horse but needs must and all that... :D

I do have an ambition to ride classically to a good level... don't suppose I'll ever get there but as long as I can do one-tempi changes with only THOUGHT aids :D:D:D before I get too old, I will be a happy lil' bunny (hugger :D:D) x

I'm a mixture.

Can be slightly obsessive, somehow mucking out two can range from 1 to 3 hours long  And I do spend a LOT of time at the yard.

But then I'm also a competition rider so therefore all that time at the yard is dedication to our competetive career! I compete BS with the aim to go as far as I can - at least 130 successfully, preferably higher. But I don't see my horses as there for a 'job' only. When we're competing they have a 'task' to do, but i do love a good stroll around the countryside and a canter along the bridleways so that my fit competition horses get a chance to relax too, and I can and have coped without competing so am leisure/pleasure too.

Most of my friends are horsey friends, who i do other stuff with too, so we get to socialise away from horses. But i work with horses and am always on the competition circuit (i LOVE away shows) so the majority of my friends are bound to come from a horsey connection and I don't see that as a bad thing.
