What stable rugs does everyone use

It seems the overall vote is weatherbeeta, masta and amigo. I haven’t actually looked at masta yet so I’ll have a look tonight.

I agree that leaving them in turnout rugs is easier but problem is my horse rubs on the metal brackets by his door and I don’t care as much if he rips a stable rug as it doesn’t need to be waterproof but his expensive turnout rugs I refuse to let him rip😂😂

amigo for me, I haven't found the outer denier to be an issue (and actually when Kira got herself tangled up somehow I was glad that it ripped apart!! )
I find them very lightweight , wash well and they seem to be the right shape for all of my various steeds.

Many people don't use stable rugs these days and just leave the turnout on. I wouldn't have done so in the days of new zealand rugs, but it is absolutely fine with modern turnouts.

Having said that I do have a variety of (underused) stable rugs and they are Kingshead, Masta and Horseware. The Kingshead (can you get these any more?) was very cheap - about £20, but is over 10 years old - and doesn't have a tough outer. It was used every night for two winters and occasionally since then and looks great still. The mare it belongs to is very gentle on her rugs though. The Horseware ones (not Amigo) are lovely but of course more expensive. The Mastas are OK, probably in between those other two in terms of quality.

I have stable rugs for all of mine. They are covered in dust in the rug rack. I keep them in their turnout rugs. Especially with 4 horses and lack of time in the morning as I’m rushing to work. I even more an expensive stable rug from horse zone from Olympia three years ago. It’s still in the bag!

Another who has a load of stable rugs gathering dust as mine live in their turnouts. The only time I use stable rugs - usually a Bucas Celtic - these days is if a horse is in on box rest.

Ours on the yard are only out for a few hours in the depths of winter so while I'm very happy to leave wet rugs on to dry them out, I prefer a stable rug while they are indoors for long spells as they are generally lighter weight

We haven't used stable rugs for years. We got fed up of them acting like sponges & soaking up pee in the stable & the smell was horrible. We use turnout rugs.

I leave turnouts on overnight, they dry off better and then I’m not putting a cold clammy rug on in the morning. However if they were in 24/7 then to me you can’t beat Weatherbeeta for quality & fit, particularly for mine who both have enormous shoulders which means Horseware rugs (for example) are too tight around the chest. I’ve got Weatherbeeta rugs which have been going for 10 years and are as good as new. Buy cheap, buy twice, I always say! (Although I do appreciate that there are cheap rugs that are perfectly good!)

Only one of mine ever wears a stable rug and he's got 2 identical Shires turnouts, one for day and one for bed
I hate leaving a really muddy rug on; I imagine clods dropping off and making the bed manky

I bought a cheapy £20 Rhinegold stable rug, it’s actually really nice, I wouldn’t have chosen a rhinegold as a turnout or for anything before but it’s actually really nice. I also have a weatherbeeta combo that’s like a duvet.

Not masta, they used to slip down my horses shoulders and left huge rubs!

Love the Amigo, they're so lightweight but warm - really handy as under rugs too

I’ve got mainly Shires and WeatherBeeta but mostly now I just leave turn-outs on - I’ve got Rambo, Rhino and Amigo.

My horses are groomed and ridden regularly so I’ve no problem not changing rugs over every night. Anything to save time now with two horses to do.

If I take wet rugs off to ride though I’ll not usually put them back on wet so a stable rug will go on then.

I don't personally (other than some old ones I use as extra layers when needed) - I just use TO's. They're all breathable now and don't absorb the pee if they lie down in it.

I’ve bought most of my rugs from Preowned Horse Rugs for my youngster as I know he’ll outgrow them in a year or so. I’ve bought a couple of stable rugs on there, can’t remember the brand but they have quite a variety on there. When he’s fully grown I’ll treat him to Horseware ones.

I don’t like the thought of leaving him in his turnout rug when I bring him in (though I know he will be completely fine and won’t care!)
