My boy is large - he is 15.3 and is in 7ft rugs. All of his 3 stable rugs so far this autumn, he has ripped the chest out of them. its where he lays down and the rug is not big enough to stretch over his shoulder & quite simply his shoulder rips through from where the buckles are to girth area! It is sort of like the incredible hulk!

I cant get any bigger rugs as these will swamp his back end & have tried the chest/buckle expanders but he still has ripped through them.

Does anyone have any suggestions on large-chested rugs? I should add... that arent gastronmically priced, in fact the cheaper the better!

He is currently living in his turnout rugs in the stable as the durable outer seems to be the only thing that holds! poor boy!

Thanks

What have you tried so far? My mare is a fairly round shaped cob x and her Weatherbeeta stable rug swamps her

My show cob has the WB Belmont Combo (in a 6ft 6 - he normally takes a 6ft 9) for HW stable rug, and the Mark Todd MW and LW. The Belmont has big shoulder pleats, I also found the Shires Chillcheeta combo fitted well but I prefer the shiny lining of the WB.

i cant remember the exact rugs which he has had - i threw them away in such a huff, sorry!!

i totally forgot about the shoulder pleated rugs they definately look like they could work & like the price of them too!

Thanks so much for your suggestions guys

I would keep him in weatherbeeta turnout rugs- the outer fabric will be tougher so harder to destroy and they are quite generous around the shoulder area, particularly the Taka

Weatherbeeta are apparently one of the best for the larger chested horses and cobs. I have a weatherbeeta stable rug but they seem to be on the short size (its the Jasper rug) so get the next size up if you get this one

Oh, and Crimson is actually pink - my lad was unimpressed!
