I've recently bought a couple of horses - bit of a charity case so not many questions asked - both have passports but one has a very old useless looking one - basically some sheets of paper stapled together! It's issued by Richard J Steel who from a quick google no longer exist, and apparently are now managed by the Donkey Society. I really don't want to have my new showjumper registered with the Donkey Society :-( haha!

What can I do? He's not microchipped (at least there's no mention in the passport) so technically I could register him anew with any passport agency, I guess?

The other one has a passport from the Horse Passport Agency, so I guess is valid. although I can't see a microchip ID anywhere on it, which surely he must have had as he came over from Ireland. It just has a Life Number and barcode, or is that the microchip?

I would get the vet out to scan both of them.

With Horse B- Barcode is probably the chip, although look at the issue date that might help. If its a sticker it will be the microchip.

The other one, I would get the vet to complete new papers and microchip for you- if no chip found!

Well I looked at an example passport on the Horse Passport Agency website, and it has a Life Number/barcode and then also a Microchip number & barcode, and my one doesn't have the latter...I will ask them, as I'm sure you can't import a horse without a microchip!

I bought my boy from southall market and it was Richard Steele that was the passport issuer at the time (this was in 2005)

Mine is not microchipped either but as all the details are correct I have had no need to change it.

Unless you get a whole new passport I think you would have to register with the Donkey Society I'm afraid!

If you knowingly apply for a new passport for a horse that has previously had one it must be marked on the new passport that it is a replacement.
