Having started doing some tests now have been finding out from friends that Judges come up with some absolute pearlers on dressage sheets ! Makes it all the more fun to do the test and get the comments !
my boy put a very expressive buck in a test years ago. was a prelim 7 or something, the comment read something along the lines of; 'unconvential dressage movement at c, nice hind leg extension! well sat!'
edited as I can't spell
"I don't know where jumping came into the dressage element, but it was remarkably done" As my pony was too strong and we jumped out over the white boards and then jumped back in!
One of mine was "nicely executed half pass, just a shame it's not in the test", horse has decided that she didn't like something and we shot across the school.
My 17.2 Bavarian WB was refered to as 'cheeky' by one judge, made me giggle as he's HUGE but was a cheeky monkey at times.
I think the funniest was a string of comments written over about 4 movements that went something like 'Wrong lead, changed, broke, nice transition back into canter, nice change but flying changes are not required at novice, exited arena.'
I was almost in the other arena before I regained control, re entered, reader got muddled up and totally lost track of where I should go! The writer actually called out where to start for me
I was laughing so hard I almost couldn't stop him...actually I couldn't we missed most downward transitions by about 5 metres after that
when i was alot younger mine was
inapproarte (sp) use of left hand
my usually flightly mad arab, decided to be a lazy moo and not move forward, i hadnt taken a whip, so as we went round the corner away from the judge i gave her a little slap on her shoulder/wither to wake her up a bit!!
my mum nearly killed me when i came out
My horse decided to put a couple of bucks in one dressage test, out of the blue, in what would of otherwise been quite a nice test. This must have amused the judge. Her comment was "Horse obviously has a sense of humour"
Beautiful flying change - shame it wasn't part of the test!
I laughed so hard at that, it was a test where you canter on one rein go into trot accross the diagonal and canter the other rein
'I have much admiration for you' - having been bucked off in the test before, snapped the check pieces of a brand new bridle - sent mother home to get another - then done the next tes which consisted of A enter at working trot d to g rodeo down centre line etc etc.
I also love 'tactfully ridden' - I've had that one from a fair few judges!
When my horse spooked at the judges car in his first ever test - 'horse gave the judge a filthy look'!. Thankfully she had a great sense of humour and knew he was a novice!!
OH got "well ridden explosion" as mare decided that free walk on a long rein was actually free gallop on a long rein.
Best one I have heard was from a lady I know who used to judge/write for judges. She was writing one day and apparently the test was so bad the judge was struggling for something nice and positive to say. All they could come up with was "nice jacket"
We still use it when we think we have done particularly badly.
Bertie once planted himself during a working trot and would not move, the comment was
"the thelwell kick definately needs introducing to this discipline"
and on my one test on Oshk my mother made me do was
"This horse is certainly one for the hunting field, but full marks for attempting a test in a dressage legal bit, it looked very entertaining."
There is a reason I stick to the hunting fields...
That was the comment from one judge after doing a dressage test on my ex race horse, bless not sure he ever had all four feet on the ground for the whole test!
