The big lad is always by the gate when you arrive, he then moves over to the fence so he can look in the building while you're doing his food! He'll whinny the whole time you're making it, cause he just has to tell you how starved he his ;-)

What welcome do you get?

I pull up in car: Silence
Climb over yard gate which rattles noisily: silence
I peer worredly up yard.....no fuzzies to be seen
Then shout: morning!!
Get a double whicker from each & faces over gate/stables

They don't answer till I speak - maybe hiding from burglars perhaps? :D

I call her, get a LOUD whinny, to let me know she is on her way, followed by the sound of hooves, she then appears at the top of the hill, squeals and bucks as she see's me, continues to canter to gate, and the nuzzle her face into my stomach and waits while i head collar lol.

When I walk within the line of sight to his stable, he'll whinny to me if he sees me. If he's at the back of his stable, he'll move forwards as I approach the door and give me a little nudge with his head.
Then I go into the stable and realise he's pulled all of the rugs off his rug racks and covered them in dirty bedding  xx

Last winter my mare greeted me each morning by doing a wee in her stable as soon as I set foot in the barn. Luckily she hasn't started this lovely greeting this winter but usually gives a deep, throaty neigh instead:)

Mine are in a night in an american barn, it is deathly quiet when I open the doors until I say "morning you 2" and then they both give a little whicker.

Mine are still out at the moment & normally stood by the gate, they they just whinny to me until they get their food, but if they grazing I always get a whinny & they come trotting over. When they are in at night I get a whinny. They no my car aswell as soon as they see it coming they are waiting :D

I get a neigh of all mine bucket love only i think and then the cob has a wee and then kicks the door constantly just to make sure that i know hes always fed first.

On a morning as I walk down towards the back of the stable block and just as I reach the corner I hear her nicker, if other people walk down she doesn't so she obviously knows my footsteps or I walk funny

When I go to get her from the field she's usually standing at the gate, she will bring her head up look, realise its me then shout - then she paces until I reach her.

I've noticed they do recognise you even from a distance as when other liveries walk down she doesn't shout.....aw

Sounds like mine.............hadnt thought about the pee! BUT I get right up to him then get a big Pee then a whinny or sometimes no pee and just a whinny. Love it. But I definitely have a cupboard love! Walking food person!

Not sure why the pee as well???????????But it oftne all hangs out so is nice and relaxed with my company! I take it as a compliment.

I get thundering hoofs as she gallops across the field and always skids to stop about an inch from my nose! I am quite sure she will misjudge it someday!!

my mare has a window at the back of her stable which overlooks the path to the barn so she's always at the window watching out for me, then as I come round to the entrance I get a lovely deep whinny - although really we both know it's for the feed I'm carrying :D

Its started by the loud attention seeking brown one who lets off a fairly cute whinny, quickly followed by weaving and door kicking if not immediatley attended. As soon as the big white one hears the whinny he starts screaming his head of like a strangled cat which then will usually set the whole yard off in expectation of their breakfast..... they appear to know the chorus of shouting and banging makes me move swiftly as I dont want to wake the yard owners daughter, grand children and great grandchildren up too early!! Once fed the brown and white one continue whinnying until rugs are changed and they are in the field with their morning treats! Its quite cute really, the big white one is on the end of the barn and he sticks his head round the corner to watch me approach in the morning and make sure the brown one isnt getting something hes not :p

I used to walk into the block to see my boy duck back into his stable. he would wait for me to whistle before coming back out.

my current boy has started whickering when he gets called :)

My boy trys to look like he's not bothered and turns his head away but I still looking out of the corner of his eye. Sometimes I get a whinny. Out in the field as soon as they see the dogs come into the field they come cantering over. They used to hate being shut in the back half of the field as couldn't get to gate to see me arrive

My little one screams as soon as I drive through the farm gate, swiftly followed by her foal going a version of a stuck pig - she hasnt 'quite' got her winny yet! Then my big girl huckers as Im opening the field gate to drive over. She then has a pee in her spot - she wee's and poo's in specific spots in the field! - and thunders over.
Then I gets huffles and huckers until the electric is turned off and feeds dolled out! Little one squeals every so often, as a sort of harmonising over Mellys huffles and the foals grunts! x

If both stabled (as are next to one another) it goes like this:

Rock up at stables at stupid oclock and park outside stable. Mini TX's mare bangs for england, whilst waving her head and gnashing her teeth at you (um, yes, will bite). No whinnying though. Once you put feed in, and you have to push her head over the door to get it in the stable, she calms down and scoffs for england.

My cob gives you a demonstration in restraint, all the while licking his lips. He turns away from you slightly, going 'all unnecessary', and stands aside, very, very politely, which I walk in and put his feed bucket down. Usually accompanied by a very gentle little whicker, which totally belies his thug reputation and looks.

When turned out (separately). Mare turns up on hard standing and scrapes it. Eats, wanders off to graze. My boy is nowhere to be seen and has to be bribed to come in with a bucket.

I'm fortunate to have mine literally at the bottom of the garden. When they see the bathroon light go on they are in "alert" mode, watching the back door intently. When I open the back door they both yell "starving horses here!" at me.

A very loud whinny followed by lots of reminders until her food arrives in her stable.
She's got manners so she will step back to allow you to open the door, place the bucket down and step back out before she starts eating. She loves her breakfast!

Cannot stand horses that barge you out of the way to stick their heads in their buckets.

Ours whinny as soon as we walk on the yard and they spot us! Chloe always whinnies when I come out the tack room cos she knows apples and carrots come from there!

I usually get a wicker which if I am not quick enough to get to him is followed by a pee. I have to dash out the house in the morning and get into the stable as quickly as possible so he doesn't pee!

the pony that mum has on loan, hears her car coming up the drive and will follow the sound of the car as far as he can and then will stand at the gate and wait for her untill she gets there, on the other hand taz when living out, will come trotting over to the gate when i shout depending on the amount of grass they have, if alot he may lift the head and slowly wander over, if in the stable i get neighed at to hurry up with breakfast

I sometimes get a whicker in the morning; if I go down into the field during the day I often get called to when he sees me coming and if he's waiting to come in of an evening and sees me drive past on the way to park, I'll be called to (more like at ). Every small thing.

Darling old boy used to whicker in the mornings (albeit pretty certainly *purely* food related as he had breakfasts ) and did the same thing as another poster's with peeing - used to have to try to skulk most way to his door, say hi a few metres away and get him out asap bc if he saw you coming before you had the gate open it was a kicker for the shavings bill :D

My two either give both whicker when they hear/see me, although sometimes my boy gives a high-pitched whinny if he is particularly excited to see me! :p

I also manage a livery yard, and one of my favourite parts is getting their first in the morning, opening the sliding doors and shouting 'morning ponies' and hearing the chorus of whinny's in reply. :D

Mine see me drive the down the track up to their field, little one trots over and comes and stands by the side of the fence to watch us get out of the car, licking his lips constantly! He is so funny!
My big mare comes over in her usual slow meandering way and is so patient bless her. She just stands and watches me make the breakfasts...where as little on marches up and down til its ready!
