When you see other European countries increase their military budget and Ireland is getting new military fighter jets it’s a bit concerning , the amount of arguments that happening . So what would you do with your horse if ww3 happens and it’s affects the uk and Ireland. I personally would pts my horse because I wouldn’t like them to fend for themselves if I couldn’t get to the yard .

I'd carry on as I am until such time as I couldn't. I don't live in a town, although it's quite military here, so I don't know to what extend it would affect me.

With the tech we have now WW3 would be blaring people into oblivion with nukes so we would be here one minute and gone the next.

I honestly don’t give it head space, what will be will be and what won’t won’t. I spend too much time worrying about things that I can’t do anything about in my own tiny life bubble so I don’t add the world stage to it.

Unfortunately this.
If there was a nuclear strikes a la Threads or When The Wind Blows (YouTube them if you want a really depressing day). I guess I’d turn them out and wait for the inevitable.

It's not so much the nukes that worry me! Like some have said here one minute gone the next - it's all the cr@p we'll have to put up with before the button gets pressed that worries me. Although I do try to put it out of mind, too many day to day worries as it is.

Well car won’t be any good so my new mode of transport around the farm
They’ll have to learn to help move cows as quad won’t be useful either after a while
Get the sled team on wheels as well
All sorted
Then we will die at some point

I don’t think (and I pray to gods I don’t believe in that I’m right) that there’s much direct threat to the U.K. Actual bombing / invasion type attacks would almost certainly get the offender nuked off the planet, in which case it wouldn’t really matter anymore.

But, if things were headed that way, I’d have both of ours PTSD. They’re both closer to 30 than 25, I wouldn’t feel I wasn’t taking much away from them. I heard enough horror stories come out of Ukraine about the horses around Kyiv who weren’t moved in time to not want to risk it with oldies who are, realistically, only looking at another couple of years.

I did wonder the same thing during the early days of COVID ; what would be best if we were truly in an end of the world type plague and I thought then I’d rather PTS while I still could.

I think, and sort of hope if that is the right word...that cyber warfare which would result in massive infrastructure failure would be the key weapon in a WW scenario. Although many lives would be lost and nations fairly rapidly brought to their knees, radiation would hopefully not be the most likely outcome. Instead, no access to basic utilities, information blackouts and dire disruption of essential supply chains leading to food, oil and many other shortages to a very significant degree would be cheaper and far less dangerous to an aggressor state than getting into a nuclear situation. I've no idea what I/we would do at the sharp end of that but horses could potentially be turned out with our hill ponies. My dog could be fed from any dead-stock here on the farm. We are hopefully, a very long way from needing to plan for this! But I might extend the veg garden...

I have given this thought in the past. We have many cattle too. I would secure our perimeter fences and then cut all the interior fences so there could be free movement and access to a stream that they could drink from if the water supply gave up. Of course, most farms would have been built where there was a water source and we have a disused pump, I don't know how far down the water is. The alternative would be to destroy them all so they wouldn't starve or die from horrible causes.

When you really start to think about surviving with no modern taken-for-granted services it starts to boil your brain. But it is how people did survive, have children and end up with you and me through all the preceding centuries!

Many of the horror type stories of survival after a war, assume that there would be vehicles, some fuel, food, medical supplies and the like available for some time - Day of the Triffids, etc. but you would have to think, what is going to happen after all that runs out. Would we have the knowledge and skills to put in an electric supply, clean water, etc.

Yes, if one country really wanted to wreck another, then an attack on their computer systems would seem the obvious way to go.

I'm in a few preppers groups on facebook, makes interesting reading and if we were to survive some sort of attack the main problem as food and essentials started to run out would be other people.
I'm on a smallholding and can grow my own food, have horse power and can make certain tools and equipment to survive plus repair all the harness as needed .People who are starving would simply revert back to the law of the jungle and take your supplies.
The preppers groups open your eyes and gives you tips on what to expect and how to avoid the plagues of raiders.
In the event of WW3 like others, I would carry on as long as I could and hoard supplies hidden somewhere and as I have firearms (legally) I wouldn't hesitate to use them IF I had to to protect my animals, land and loved ones.

There isn't really an emoji for this! I too would be concerned about protecting my loved ones and property. I hate the idea of our stock suffering/ being harmed but we would do our utmost to survive and maintain a safe community. I suspect that a WW3 would at first be one of immense privation with availability of medication, access to veterinary meds, ordinary supplies, utilities etc very difficult and with a range of black market alternatives catering for wealthier folks. Theft would be rife as would be armed assault etc. Regular loss of power and utilities would make ordinary life extremely frustrating, even before the economy totally nose dived leaving a great many people in utterly dire straits. I have no idea if the UK could pull together to create a 'fighting/survival' mentality. Grim but hopefully not imminent!
