My two horses are on livery at a totally DIY yard - it is on a farm, so there is no assistance whatsover.
I am there in the week from about 6.15am. I have my own two to feed, muck out, rug change and turnout, as well as nets, water etc. As I couldn't turn my gelding out on his own I agreed with one of the other girls that I would feed and turn hers out in the morning with mine and do it's rug and she said that she would bring mine in in the afternoon. We started doing this about three weeks ago and she has only brought mine in once as she hasn't turned up til late. She told me that she was there every day from about 2.30pm which is great as it meant that mine could dry off before I got there to feed/ride in the evening, but she has rarely turned up before 5.30pm in which case I'm there anyway. I told her that as she had two of mine to bring in, that she didn't have to bother with rugs - just bring them in and leave them in the boxes til I get there as they would have hay/water. This evening was an example. Everyone else had brought in and she still wasn't there. We don't leave one horse out on it's own, so yet again, I had to bring hers in. It seems that she's thinking that it doesn't matter if she doesn't turn up because she knows I'll do it. I don't want to leave it out on it's own as it's a bit of a fretter and I don't want it to get injured be running round in the mud.
The woman who has a gelding next to mine said that I could turn hers out instead in the morning if I wanted as she leaves her turnout rug on overnight and it doesn't get a feed in the morning - it would make it much simpler......
I really like the girl I am helping, and I don't think there's any deliberate intent to take advantage of me - perhaps she doesn't see what she's doing, but everyone is telling me that she's taking the P*** and that she is getting assisted livery for no money while I'm still going up three times a day (I do a late night check as well). Would you just leave as is and carry on doing hers, or would you say something? And if you would say something, how would you do it tactfully?
