My two horses are on livery at a totally DIY yard - it is on a farm, so there is no assistance whatsover.
I am there in the week from about 6.15am. I have my own two to feed, muck out, rug change and turnout, as well as nets, water etc. As I couldn't turn my gelding out on his own I agreed with one of the other girls that I would feed and turn hers out in the morning with mine and do it's rug and she said that she would bring mine in in the afternoon. We started doing this about three weeks ago and she has only brought mine in once as she hasn't turned up til late. She told me that she was there every day from about 2.30pm which is great as it meant that mine could dry off before I got there to feed/ride in the evening, but she has rarely turned up before 5.30pm in which case I'm there anyway. I told her that as she had two of mine to bring in, that she didn't have to bother with rugs - just bring them in and leave them in the boxes til I get there as they would have hay/water. This evening was an example. Everyone else had brought in and she still wasn't there. We don't leave one horse out on it's own, so yet again, I had to bring hers in. It seems that she's thinking that it doesn't matter if she doesn't turn up because she knows I'll do it. I don't want to leave it out on it's own as it's a bit of a fretter and I don't want it to get injured be running round in the mud.
The woman who has a gelding next to mine said that I could turn hers out instead in the morning if I wanted as she leaves her turnout rug on overnight and it doesn't get a feed in the morning - it would make it much simpler......
I really like the girl I am helping, and I don't think there's any deliberate intent to take advantage of me - perhaps she doesn't see what she's doing, but everyone is telling me that she's taking the P*** and that she is getting assisted livery for no money while I'm still going up three times a day (I do a late night check as well). Would you just leave as is and carry on doing hers, or would you say something? And if you would say something, how would you do it tactfully?

I dislike DIY yards, this being one of the reasons why.

It is very easy for someone to take the mick out of you, likewise, it is also easy to take the mick out of someone else!

Don't speak to other liveries about the situation. Talk to the girl in question, she may think that you have no problem whatsoever bringing in her horse.

Thanks Kay Louise. I was on part livery, but due to illness of one of the horses and a vets bill of £6500 I had no choice but to move them to DIY. Believe me, I would much prefer to be on part/full, but the money ran out!! I will try and hack out with her next weekend and speak to her then. If she just left her turnout rug on it would help in the morning...

Definitely talk to her. The biggest cause of bitchiness at yards is because people talk to everyone except the person they really need to. This way you can find out if the girl is ignorant about what has been going on or just taking the mick. As you say, she is a nice girl, chat to her about it. Good luck.xxx

I think you should definitely talk to her, she may be taking the mick or she may be completely ignorant. If it were me I would also terminate your arrangement with her and turn out the other woman's horse instead. You say she is a nice girl so just have a friendly word to her.

Can you use the clocks going back as an excuse and subtly say is she still able to get the horses in earlier now it's darker in the evenings and you are at work! Say you are still happy to put hers out in the morning if she is able to bring yours in! I'm on a yard with no assistance too and rely on friends and other liveries to help out.

I thinks she's taking the mick.

It's amazing how differently people see things. I am very much a person who would rather die than have people think that I am taking advantage. But the other girl at my yard is of the opinion that, if the YO doesn't like it, she will say so, and takes the mick royally. I think she is a proper cheeky monkey, texting all the time asking for her horse to be brought in, rug changed and fed. And she only lives 1 mile up the road! I do like her, but she's a cheeky monkey.

I would play on the "next door" thing and say it would be easier for you to do the one next door because it is next door.

Now this idea I like! Well thought of....thanks!

£6500!!!!!! Our horses do not know they're born!

Things never change, I'm on a very small full livery only yard and it is the groom that does all the moaning :D
I don't think you need to make a big deal out of it. Next time you run into her just mention that you are also busy at work and you would be grateful if she could now bring the horses in EVERY evening. Kick her arse into touch without being tactless. If she still persists to take the p*ss, find a new partner. She probably turns up 5minutes after you've left :)
