If you didn`t have a horse/horses.

I`m intrigued, as mine takes up such a big chuck of my time. What would you do with yourself if you didn`t have to muck out, poo pick, groom, ride, get ready for shows and hacks out etc ...

I think I`d be pretty lost myself.

I would be lost but I suppose I would find something else to do, go on holiday a bit more is one of the things I would do, my oh often jokes when we are away and says do I want to find some local stables so I can do some mucking out in case I am missing it cheeky s*d

I'd be bored out of my mind and would probably end up drinking even more wine and turning into a recluse.

As I only have been into horses less than 3 years ago I know what I was doing before !
- Gardening, walking in the country, visiting places around the area
- More money travelling, holidays
- Going out , pubs ,etc ( I don't really go out anymore !)
- For a while as well as working full time, I had a jewellery business (online and brick and mortar for a year)
- Still have a business (equine , dog photography) and planning on going full time doing this in a month's time !!

Try to survive the living hell somehow.

Yep this!

I lasted all of 5 weeks when I moved cities last year. Things like lie-ins, being hungover at the weekend and having more money were nice for a while (i.e. one weekend), but life was tough after the novelty wore off!

Friends and I often wonder what normal people do at the weekends/evenings, especially when it's a nice afternoon and perfecting hacking weather!

^^me too. One of mine is off games and it is very odd only having one to ride now. If they were both off, I think I'd lose the plot!

Ooh, a few years ago I prob would have had kids instead, if (god forbid) it was to happen now, Id prob get a dog or two. Or maybe I'd be a slim, superfit, healthy, high achieving high wage earner with an immaculate house, top of the range car, and a permatan from all my exotic holidays.......

Not sure really, I can not really remember what I did before horses because i was 13 at the time. I suppose i would do more art, walk the dog instead of letting him run about all day, sleep in longer. Go away for weekends, not sure. I guess I would hate it after a while.

My two horses died within 5 months of each other. After losing the second one I ended up wandering aimlessly around asking what normal people did with their spare time. I got my new horse within a fortnight, so I guess I'll never know.

I would go to the gym every day and spend loads of money on beauty products, nails, botox and being pampered !! Instead, I am overweight, wrinkly with grubby bitten nails but two gorgeous pampered ponies :)

Before I got Lil in August 2013 I was really into my cars. Travelled all over the UK for shows etc. I hadn't had a horse in 7 years. I had tea at 5pm, stayed in and watched tv... now im lucky if the tv ever goes on!!
Skint... but happy!

More cycling and walking instead of trying to cram it in around horses and doing not enough of either.
Much more gardening.
More socialising.
More holidays.
See my friends occasionally.
Have lie ins.
Save more money!
Have nice days out to country houses etc with my OH.

Lots of things!!

I would be a lot cleaner, and so would my house. But.........boring women have immaculate homes (and no horses, obviously).

I was (and still am to be honest) devastated and lost when my boy had to be PTS due to a field accident. I am not ready for a new horse yet and currently have no other animals to keep me happy and occupied.
I have found I spend way to much time sitting about the house not doing very much but I have taken up a new hobby and spend more time visiting my best friend. I picked up extra hours at work and read the forum a lot.

Very much looking forward to having dogs and horses again in the future, they make me a happier person and give me the drive to do stuff outdoors ,I find it's no fun going for a walk by myself but have always enjoyed being out with my animals.

I had to PTS my boy about 6 weeks ago. I know it's still very early, raw days, but I am thoroughly lost. I'm doing other things, I'm seeing my friends more, I'm seeing my partner more, I'm better off... but the gaping hole that's left is soul-destroying. You don't realise quite how much of your routine they are until you don't have that routine any more! So the answer to your question is, I do lots, but I know what I would prefer to be doing!

Don't normal people play with their horses and go for a hack when it's like that??? It's the poor unfortunate peculiar people who don't have/like horses that I worry about.

Last time I tried it I was in the pub with friends or boyfriend every night. I shopped at weekends buying things I did not need or sometimes ever use! I swam twice a week catching lots of colds for some reason. I went to the gym too. And I developed insomnia and became slightly crazy! Not my thing the non-horsey life. If I gave up owning now I would go back to lessons and hacking at a riding school, maybe have a share horse for a year or so occasionally. I would spend a lot more time on holiday or at the beach and take evening classes to keep my brain active. It would be more flexible but no cheaper so I will stick with horse ownership for now. I love everything about horses not just riding. I definitely miss it when that involvement is not there.

I found out today that some of my work colleagues are forking out on average about 40 quid a day on childcare , what !!! Plus all the toing and froing, no matter how much time and money my horse takes up, it's not even close to their regimented daily regime (respect)

Ive only had Ted for 6 months and yea sometimes id love to come home from work and just do nothing sometimes when he's been a complete ass but I can't imagine him not being around anymore to the point where thinking of him not being around scares the crap out of me. He solved so many problems for me and a hell of a lot cheaper than therapy. He's out 24/7 and only 2 so he gets a groom or at least some attention each day after work and i'm normally home by 7 in the evening :)
