She has a weird figure to say the least

She is ridden everyday usually walk and trot and a wee bit of canter she is 5yro 13.2 out all day and in at night?

Atm she gets haylage and grass and a handful of chaff

Some say she is fat (belly) and others too skinny (bum)

What size girth does she take?

Was she that weight/shape when you bought her?

She could just be in need of some better exercise to tone her up and a good worming programme.

Do you know if she's had a couple of foals in the past, I know she's only young but due to her shape if she's had one and not picked up since or or possibly could be having one if she's ballooned in the last couple of months, unless of course it just a grass belly but if your not too sure it might be best having her over by a vet checked just to make sure or have a worm count done to be on the safe side.
 
She's lacking topline, which will be improved with correct exercise.

I have to say, she also looks pregnant!! any sign of a filling udder?

I would be tempted to get a vet out to examine her before you do anything else Tbh. If she's not in foal and not wormy then you need to crack on with some exercises to build up that topline and reduce the belly.
 
My mare looks in foal when she is on good grass. So does my gelding. Is your grazing good? We had to use grass muzzles to slow them down. I also prefer them in during the day and out at night in the summer.
 
I think she looks as if she could be heavily in foal too. If you look at the top of her tail, she has that look that could either be her natural shape, but if you combine that with the big belly, looks like she could be about to go pop and produce a foal...

i have checked her teats and there not full up is there anymore signs i should look for the vet can't make it for a week
 
What kind of worming programme is she on. I would def want vet there asap to scan and if not in foal then ask vet about tubing a wormer direct into stomach and start a new worming programme. Assuming not in foal she needs to start working over her back and strengthening up her bum. Slow steady hill work will help this

Don't worry about the fact that you have been riding her as my mare was in full work when I bought her and she went through a 5 star vetting before the vet discovered she was in foal and had 6 weeks to go! She gave birth to a healthy foal but she was quite under weight so it took a while to get her looking good!
 
Not 100% sure althoug i have been at BSPS since friday morning i got back this aft and he *titties* are some what larger than when i left and there is an Awful lot of movement (suprised the hoof didn't come through her side)
It's all very exciting although i am 200% worried as we do not know who daddy is and i am petrified foaly will be too big for little ginge..

What should i expect from 'birth' so to speak?
 
Ha ha - they had no clue wHo my mares dad was either! The dealer had had her only a few weeks. they kept the foal and he turned out to be an amazing show jumper. He was called Robbie after the vet who vetted her! The dad must have been smaller than my mare who is 15hh as he only grew to 14.2.
Will you keep the foal?

Exciting news - did the vet have any idea how far along she is. Make sure we get piccies. You'll now have fun with sleepless nights on foal watch. It's well worth the broken nights when you meet baby for the first time.

Amage - Tube drenching is no more effective than modern oral wormers and is just a traumatic event for the horse. It's a very old fashioned way of worming and any good vet will advise you that it's not necessary.
 
Whilst i was away another lady on the yard had the vet out so she asked him if Ginge was in foal and he confirmed :) so im afraid we have no idea on date

This week there has been Tons of movement in there is this an indication of anything?

There will be Lots of pictures im already chasing people down the lane to show them baby 'kicking' :o
 
Right... get yourself a copy of 'foal to full grown' and read it! It has all the info you need in it.

Can you contact previous owner to see if you can get any idea of who the sire is? that may help you work out dates and how big a foal she may produce...

If she has had a foal before you would expect her bag to fill in plenty of time for the birth but if she hasn't it may not fill until immediately before or just after she foals. look for slackening of her vulva and muscles on her croup...

You will want a nice deep bed and you will need a good vet on standby. not one who takes a week to come out!! she will need checking by a vet after the foal is born, as will the foal.

read read read and read - the breeding forum is excellent help also.

you need to look for wax on her boobs, it'll be little crystles then you'll panic and everyone will calm you down so you can sleep again and then you'll get lots more wax then you'll really panic and not sleep again until she has had it. She will also give the impression that she has lost some more condition over her hind area and the muscles relax ready for the evacuation :-) You could do with a check up by the vet so that she has a good going over and give you some advice, I might be tempted to feed her a stud mix or balancer - I fed D&H mare and youngstock mix.
 
This is such a lovely little story! also how glad are you, you posted these pictures now! imagine not knowing and turning upto the yard one day to a little one! i would have a nervous blinking breakdown! i feel bad if i havent notices a cut from the field never mind a pregnancy!
