What's the first thing you said when you first saw your horse?

Oh thank god he isn't ugly!
(His advert had no pictures on & my friend had convinced me he was going to be funny looking). :)

He is a tad tall!

17h2", part bred Cleveland Bay.

Held by my wife, who is a tad short.

I was thinking please dont let this be another shire (IDxTB apparently), riding club horse (2 months out of racing), 6 year old (3 yr old), just ready for uhu, and then I went "oh, she's really nice" and bought her there and then. My other horse I said "if thats 16 hands I'm a monkeys uncle" and sure enough when we got her home she had grown to 17hands.

Crikey, he's short! Months of riding dappy pointers and I went to view a 13.2hh (on his tiptoes) Fell pony. Now I just think other horses are abnormally huge!

Gracie - 'that will do nicely... I wonder if it's sane?' - she wasn't, but I love her anyway
Melly - 'Thank God it's not a chestnut!' - she did pop out of Gracie;) and I was preying for a filly, any colour but chestnut - she's grey.
Grumps - 'he would do with a meal...'
Mabel - my OH's choice of a horse to view/poss buy 'You must be joking! It's WHITE:eek: and FAT:eek:' she's still a bit podgy, but very rarely white:D

My first lad: Morning " " (forget name) Ooooo You're not " " O S**T dont try to climb the wall! What a big lad (17.3hh!!!)

Worked for someone and they had sold the other horse the previous night and replaced him with what was to be (and still is) the love of my life.

:D ...............my very first horse , I cried. Such a beautiful, heavenly vision :D
We were together for 33 years :D
.
Brilliant thread DreamComeTrue. Thank-you. You have reminded me of my old dream come true :)

"What have you done"

To my OH when 3 year old Vardi (big head, gangly legs, skinny and frankly Fugly) stepped off the trailer.

He had bought him for me as a surprise (yep) following my accident as he did not want me to give up horses. Unfortunately I had not told him I had set my heart on a Fresian so was a little bit horrified at receiving a Spotty Arsed Circus Horse as I lovingly call him now.

Have to say though that even though the damn animal has aged me in the last 2 years he is truly wonderful and I do adore him and he is no longer fugly!

On meeting Floppy, "God, her ears really are that massive" :D

And for a previous horse who turned up on a lorry for a trial and promptly leapt out of it, my thoughts were "Holy *****, at least it can jump" - kept her for 6 years and she jumped everything I pointed her at. :)

I thought as I first caught sight of him coming out of his stable ...

"oh no, I've driven hundreds of miles what a waste of time ... not my type at all ... " He was unshod, muddy, shaggy and really unkempt. Saddle didn't fit, cheap bridle ...

Heart was saying no, no, no, mouth said yes, I'll have him. He is my pride and joy and has proved to be one in a million, my darling Archie.

this is a brill thread, my coloured cob boy, when I was looking for a black sec d mare " hes ugly and the wrong colour but he'll never be lame on those legs" twelve years later hes the love of my life and....... never been lame!

With Genie it was 'oh hello....' as she came up to me in the stable and investigated me with her lips - something she still does.

Titch it was 'cute'.

after searching the entire south east, I found Dougal 20 mins from my house, walked round, saw him dozing in his stable, head hanging just behind the door, half in shadow and half in sunlight, and a little voice in my head said "here is the ONE you have been searching for". was mine the next day. :D

'Umm...I hope him lying down in his stable like that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with him' upon going to see my ex-racehorse exhausted (after travelling 7 hours in an open truck the day after he finished racing to a dealer's) and crashed flat out in his stable.. :p There was nothing wrong with him :D

On seeing the Section A I had agreed to take on glittering in the sun: "Oh wow, she's just like a little fairy unicorn".

On seeing a chesnut Welsh standing on his own in a field on top of a hill, in "stallion" mode and looking utterly sensational "Oh that is a truly handsome boy, I wonder if the one we're going to see is anything like as handsome as that one. I want that one." Then we found the address we were looking for and it WAS the one we had come to see. He's caused us a great deal of headscratching to deal with his "interesting" behaviour but he is still utterly gorgeous.

On meeting my bigger Welsh "Ah" (searches frantically for something to say as he just doesn't have the presence of the chesnut) "hasn't he got a pretty head".

On first seeing my little AA mare "Oh she is just perfect, my childhood dream"

On seeing the big mare in the distance "Good grief she looks like a pony - about 13.2" then as we walked towards her and the huge size became apparent "My god, she's enormous". We bought her and took her home and my daughter's instructor's first comment was "Well that is NOT an object of great beauty". Daughter's instructor's second comment, after having watched daughter ride, was "She may not be beautiful but she really is a lovely sort of horse".

First sight of Flynn "Oh he is such a handsome boy"

I'll have her, when can you drop her off.

Two days later she was at home.

I did everything i tell my clients not to do when seeing a horse for the first time.

Never regreted it had her a year and she is amazing. :D

I'll have her. when can you bring her down.

Everything i tell my clients not to do when seeing a horse for the first time.

never regretted it, a year on and she is still amazing. :D

me - 'ooh i like - just the stamp i wanted - hes v nice'
owner - 'she... not he'
me - 'bugger....'

(i'd not realised i'd forgotten to search on scot horse with "geldings only".... so when i'd phoned up horses to see i'd not thought about the fact she could be a mare so got a bit of a shock lol!)

My first pony "wahhhhhhhh hes so ugly"- turned out to be brilliant tho

My first horse- "want this one, look how cute his nose is" obviously really good grounds for buying a 16h race horse, who then tried to kill me, came good in the end tho

My current share horse "blimey I have never seen a pink horse quite that big, hope you have a mounting block!!"

My old man - OMG he is the most beautiful boy i've ever seen! I dont care if he's got dodgy legs I want him now!
He's still with me 6 years on and is still on old cripple but still the love of my life :D

My other boy - Wow he's pretty. But look how skinny his legs are *cringe* they are going to cause me some problems lol (im used to having hunters with nice thick legs)
And boy has he caused me problems, he only gets a scratch and his leg looks like a balloon!! But he has been my dream come true, the horse i've always dreamed of owning so im not complaining!! :)

Thank God it doesn't look like a cow and then s*** is it gonna have my head off !! 9 years later still got my lovely spottie and he never has had my head off just pulls really horrendous faces which then disappear when you give him a fuss!

Monty - I just said 'wow!' he was so hunkalicious when I viewed him to share. Two years later we met up and I just burst into tears. He was so thin and depressed :( Then all I said was 'you're coming home with me mate'

Zoom - 'Oh god, what happened to it's eye??? (didn't know if she was a mare or gelding!)
