What's the first thing you said when you first saw your horse?

Well when I first saw Ethel I wasn't planning to ever own her, I got her in from the field at work when she had finished being on holiday to grow and thought "oh she's teeny!" She then proceeded to drag me from her field to her stable which were abot 10mins apart while the other two plodded in and then she pushed me out of her stable about three times before I managed to keep her in and close the door. I then thought "I really hate this little rat" and continued not to like her until I was offered her and took her home planning to sell her and make money from a free horse. I've now spent a lot more money on her than I'll ever make, but she's worth it :)

Buying India from Ascot sales, I was so fed up having missed out on all the lots I actually wanted... I saw her come into the sales ring and I just said "that looks alright, lets just get that one and go home!" £450 later and she is a little gem :) Flies over 3ft6 no drama and bold as brass! Love her to pieces! :)

Oh my god he's enormous. I wanted at 15.2 TB type. I came home with a 16'3 IDx. I still thinks he's enormous but hate riding 15.2 TB types now.

Oooh, the spots, the spots! I am utterly in love i am buying him.
Plus his eyes so cute, and bum so, so perfect, how could i resist? Yes, my appaloosa lad got me under his thumb!!

My late grey mare - 'oh she's really small and sulky looking' after I finished riding her though I thought how sensitive and genuine she felt so I brought her! She wasn't easy, could be a right pain to handle but she was a cracker to ride, always tried her best.

Chestnut - I was still numb after loosing my Grey so it's a bit hazy but I know it involved a lot of cooing and clucking like mother hens! I think the line 'oh he's gorgeous' was said more than once! He does have a face and temprement that melts hearts even if he can be a cheeky little monkey sometimes!

"I'm going to have a horse just like him one day"

The first time I met him when he was bought by a woman up the road and I saw him in the field - gorgeous! I'd never in a million years thought I'd have him!!

When I went to view my horse there were 5 mares in the field. I instantly pointed to one and said "I like her", owner said she's the one for sale. The next thing I said was "look at the size of her feet and chest" - It's been love ever since :)

'Finally' After waiting what seemed like weeks for her to arrive..

Two weeks later 'Brilliant,i bought a £2500 dud' (I still have my 'dud')

My next horse however 'Simply Perfect'

'FGS get him OUT of there!'

When I first met my horse he was trying to kill my loan pony, we had to open the field gate to let her race out before slamming it closed in time to stop him following. (I was at the same livery yard as his previous owners).

"He's really taking the P out of 'x', glad I don't have to ride him"

Famous last words hey!! Still fair comment for an experienced grade B repeatedly refusing a 40cm cross pole with his doting owner. Thankfully soon got over his little games when we bought him.

"Why have i bought a horse i hate....?"
And then promptly broke down in tears....

I wouldn't have him anywhere else but with me now :D:p:D

"um.... is that it?"/.. :D (turned out to be evil horse that needed tons of schooling)....

the 2nd i saw his head over the door and said "hes mine.". :)

"OMG what a gangly, skinny little thing, both legs coming out of the same hole and a miserable look on his face". To be fair, he was only a yearling and he's grown into 15.1 of fantastic, handsome oversized highland. He's been with us for 16 years and I cannot remember him ever doing anything wrong. Never sick, sorry or bad tempered. Just too big to be shown in county shows. Love him to bits.

''orrrr hello Mackenzie''

then it was probably

''ooow does it bite?'' as barged his way through to me past his older half brother..... with his ears pinned back. :D

With Rocky My shetland - "Oh my god - he is so cute! Look at his ginger mohawk! I want him!" He acted all shy and bullied ... his ginger mohawk now matches the rest of his piebald exterior and he is officially a thug! Lol.

With Rosie I thought "Oh, she has a really ugly face but what if my dad changes his mind" She was the sweetest big horse and her "ugly" face soon grew on me!

& With my friesian filly Emma this will sound stupid but I said ... "Wow she is gorgeous! She actually looks like a baby friesian!" I had expected her to just look like a black cobby foal!

Horse - Hmmm, not much like the advert then. (Bought her anyway against my better judgememt because I felt sorry for her and she is now happily retired and will be with me for life.)
Pony 1 - Awww she's lovely. (She was a week old at the time. Is now broken and riding nicely. Love the cheeky madam to bits.)
Pony 2 - She seems a bit grumpy. (Yep she was, but is much better now and only grumps at strangers.)
Isn't it interesting reading this thread to see how many of us bought horses that weren't what we thought we wanted initially.

She looks very sweet, but she is a mare :(

(went to buy the gelding, failed vetting so bought the mare! She is awesome and couldn't ask for a better horse!)

I didnt say it but i thought "oh my God, you poor thing"! He was a skinny, muddy, covered in lice/rainscald mess!! 6 months later he looks stunning! People who havnt seen him for a while say "Is THAT nico? Hes totally different!" All it took was a couple of wormers, all the hay he could eat and some louse powder, just what every horse should get its not rocket science!!
