I went out for a hack the other day, whilst staying at Center Parcs. We went round Longleat forest and on the way back the girl who took me out pointed out a whole herd of giraffe and some camels- we were right next to the safari park

What's the strangest thing you've seen??

Elephants!!!

About 20yrs ago, a passing circus had stopped to give them a walk!!!!

A streaker - He was the local nudist who used to run round th woods naked with a feather in his hair!!!

I once saw an abandoned white van with a life-size model pirate standing on top of it, horsie was terrified and so was I, very strange to see in the middle of a meadow!

Well where I used to keep my horse a circus came nearby every few months, we were out for our saturday morning hack, and was just about to take off along the side of a field when we noticed alpakas and a whole other menagerie (sp) blocking the track!!!!! It was v funny at the time

Oh, back in 1992 I rode straight through the middle of an illegal all night rave at 6am in the morning! There were lots of people doing 'big fish, little fish' and prancing around with whistles/dummies/glo-sticks & a nicked van containing DJ equipment parked in the middle of of a 25 acre field in the middle of the Cotswolds. Persuading my mare to go past was quite entertaining!

Im laughing out loud at some of these - hacking round my way must be so boring I never see anything like this!!

The one that freaked me most was a pressure cooker out on a back door step, whistling to itself! I can only presume that the 'chef' had let the pressure build up too much and didn't know that you are supposed to run cold water over them to cool down. On the same hack conkers kept dropping off the trees and landing on our hats, very echoey

Not really unusual .... however Cantered through a field with my friend and some bullocks came charging up to us, I leapt off ned opened the gate charged through, only to be faced with a single bullock standing in the middle of the bushes alll on his own .... I do not know who was more shocked, him or us

We got attacked by a horse eating man-carrying-a-side-board walking back from the local car boot. It is the only thing that has ever caused my otherwise unflappable horse to spook.
A jet engine thing on a wide load complete with yards of loose flapping plastic (unflappable horse wasn't arsed about that - it's just 70's style plywood dining room furniture he has a problem with)
Flasher in a cape and zorro mask and a few people in compromising position.s

A Guy...probably in his 40's...sat on his BSA Bantam...a really classy bike back then...having a Sherman Tank....

i wasn't the slightest bit fazed TBH......he just sat there, looked me in the face, and smiled.i kicked on my pony and said..

"Ha....is that it????"....and rode on..............

i've seen other things...the usual shaggers, both male and female/and male,male/and female,female..

it happens

A llama appeared from behind a hedge. Spat at us - pony bolted, I fell off.
It was a long time ago- when I was 13, but I've never forgotten.

Some of those are priceless!

The funniest a friend and I had was a man standing in the middle of his garden suddenly starting to play the bagpipes. We live in Kent.

Its probably the only time I literally saw a horses mouth drop open in shock.

Probably not funny for the victim..... but I saw the police digging up the common up the road from Tweseldown Racecourse...

They found a head and hands in one hole and the rest of the body in another hole!!!!

This one is not at all funny and don't know if I should put it in but thankfully has only happened once.
I was escorting a group of riders through Epping Forest , many years ago and came across a man who had hanged himself. There were no mobile phones in those days and we had some children on the ride so it was a very difficult situation

On my first Hack as Hacking office for UWE Riding last year we were walking around the edge of a planted field that was partially flooded and didn't notice an old bin lorry on other side of the hedge, que man with power hose trying to get label off the side, you can kinda imagine the noise a power hose on the side of a bin lorry makes! Anyway, horses tried to bolt/spin and one member came off... into the bog.... had to fill in so many accident forms..... stupid uni policy

My mum probably has the worst story ever. It only happened about two months ago.

Mum rides out VERY early, and one day the bridle path entrance was blocked off by a car. In the car were two people that were erm.... "at it". Mum had no other way to get home so had make her presence on the horse known. So the guy pushed the girl off, pulled his pants up and drove off.

CRINGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I used to help at a riding school we used to hack past a field full of ostriches. When we had to take the kiddies for walk-outs we used to take them round a ride called "this is not a bridle path" (you can guess why) and stop to watch the ostriches then do exercises like round the world before we went home! Gone are those days I think!

Also used to hack up some woods where there was a tiny ancient graveyard, legend had it that a witch was killed in the woods and there were always those tee-pee type structures made of sticks around - quite scary when you're 14!

Was hacking down usual route years ago out on a head land on the coast when I saw two men lying on the grass with binoculors. I ignored them but the came down and asked if i hacked out there often. i said every day and they then said good, a body went in to the river in the city and the tides would probably wash it up there! i never hacked down there again!!!!! in fact I have never even walked down there since and that was 15 years ago!!!!

An elephant, a Penny Farthing going rather fast down a hill and a massive Buddah in a field where a mini rock concert thing had been held.

Also seen ostriches (in a field we had to ride past) and a naked man standing on top of a sand dune.

I was out on a breaker about 10 years ago now.He stopped suddenly and just ahead of us in the road there was pipe smoke swirling around, i could see it and smell it.We were on a single track lane near Letton with a high hedge on one side and a lake on the other no one else was on the lane. The horse relaxed and as i passed the smoke i put my hand through it and it moved around in the wind. That night in the pub i mentioned to an old boy from the village what i had seen i began by saying" I was riding along the road to Letton today and my horse stopped and just ahead of me there was..." and he finished my sentence for me..."pipe smoke hanging over the road!" Turns out an old boy got cut off by the river Wye flooding many years ago and haunts that part of the road!!!!

A man wheeling a hoover through our woods. It was about 7am and he just said 'Hello!' really cheery and continued walking on like everything was normal.

flashers , shaggers, men in cars having a 'tommy tank' all the ususal stuff you see when on the costal paths we ride on but the strangest thing Ive seen was after the January storms was a dead goat washed up with all the other stuff the storm had dumped on the shore!! How weird ??

My last horse had 'gaydar' and used to spook at every wobbling bush in a certain woods. I had hacked my friends horse there too whilst she was on holiday and bumped into a group of...I dont know??!! Cyber geeks/war reinacters/role players? was so so so bizarre, much fancy dress and shrieking.
