whats the point of wearing makeup riding?

I don't know as there's a "point" per se. But there are plenty of people who don't feel fully dressed if they're not wearing some makeup. I mean, what's the point in brushing your hair before going to the barn? It's just going to end up a mess. But pretty much everyone I know does. It's a matter of your comfort level.

 WHY! Why does it matter if someone wan'ts to wear make up! Don't think they would even make you take it off at boot camp, let alone to ride!

Because I find the girls who turn up with makeup applied via trowel are the ones who won't do any mucking out, grooming, tack cleaning ect because
' I'll sweat, and then my make up will be ruined' or when the rest of us are ready to go are still applying make up. It makes life easier for the team.

BTW: I let them wear make up at team riding comps

i always wear makeup when leaving the house, not that im trying to impress any guys or anything- i just feel more comfertable/confident with it on- and luckily i never sweat enough for it to run even in 30C showjumping! so i think its ok for me to wear it... i hope! and i wear thin foundation, mascara, eyeliner. i am careful i don't look weird though as i think thick makeup + riding hats just don't go at all.
And although i turn up in makeup i'm always the hardest working! i generally don't bother how mucky i get. i think makeup can compensate for gettin a bit rough looking doing the yard jobs :P

I thought you may have been joking! I think it's wrong to ask anyone to remove their make up, unless you're a teacher at a school. It's up to the individual if they choose to wear make up, if it sweats off tough. But they should have the choice. :D

I only wear it riding if I already had some on anyway - eg after work. As my horse isn't kept on a yard I don't normally see anyone unless I"m riding with someone. However, I am starting to re-think my general riding look, after meeting no less than 5 people I know on this morning's hack... really, how bad is this:
No make up
Bed/ helmet head hair
Boyfriends T shirt which I wore to paint the fence the other week, so is covered in wood stain
Denim jods
Black chaps
Brown boots

Just great...

I'm not as harsh as the old manager :o I let them wear mascara and possibly neutral lipstck if i'm in a good mood :D I just don't like seeing them looking like they rolled in doritoes

because I'd scare the children if i didn't :D :D :D

Actually, weirdly enough I have always been very self concious and throughout my whole life, and ever since i was about 14 I have not set foot out of the house with out make up. The foundation i buy has an spf factor, and I think this has protected my face from sun damage as I have no crows feet or any of the wrinkles most people who live an outdoor life of my age have.

The only downside of riding with make up is your hat goes a manky orange, and I have to wash the inside of it frequently.

Ahhhh the old orange as it gets look :D Yes I can see how this would be annoying, are they young? There is that dreadful period when young girls discover make up and apply it with with great gusto and everything is two inches thick. :D

I don't really wear make up ever, and I always feel envious of those at comps with a bit on to make them look less dead for competitions ;)

That said, I have trouble enough keeping my skin not flakey and eczema-ey so don't think that peeling off flakey, make up would look good, esp with filthy fingernails :D

What i dont understand is why people get annoyed by others who wear make-up? I wear foundation, concealer, powder, blusher, eye shadow, mascara and eye liner every day-so what!??:rolleyes:

I'm another who won't leave the house without my eyeliner and mascara on, although I like to look natural rather than made up. I hate overdone make up but I don't feel dressed without any on. It certainly doesn't stop me getting mucky doing chores though, it is simply part of my routine every morning, shower, dress, do hair and make up and I can do all that in fifteen minutes when I have to.
My make up doesn't budge apart from one incident when there was a car accident beside my stables during a torrential thunderstorm and I had to deal with paramedics and the police; and when I got in I looked like Alice Cooper - waterproof is the way to go!

I wear it purely for camoflauge when at skool (my work).

I don't wear it riding or when I'm off to shows. The only reason I wear it to skool is to stop kids asking me what the hell happened to my face!

I wear it going out sometimes, but not really bothered.

I have a birthmark on the left side of my face. It buggered up my eyebrow and most of the eyelashes in my top eyelid don't exsist.

I'm pretty fugly to be honest, because of it, and no amount of make-up is gonna hide that fact!

Many operations and much plastic surgery later, it's as good as it's gonna get, and with 40 soon approaching, it's me how I am now....can't be bothered to be caring anymore!

To me, heavy make-up is purely vanity.

Be grateful your face is symmetrical. Mine never will be, and thus ruined my early career of TV acting.

I don't leave the house without make up and for shows probably wear a little bit more cos of the photographers but my horse isn't really the sweat inducing type at shows, at home he is and also he doesn't jump on grass so no stud related sweating for me. Also it's only the basics foundation, concealer, eyeliner and mascara and lipgloss, can't forget the lipgloss. I've been a groom for 6 years so it's no indication of work level just poor self esteem in my case

I think it is personal choice. Why not wear make-up? Why not go bare? One of my friends wears the whole kaboodle and that is up to her, it doesn't affect her riding. I personally choose to wear nothing but a bit of mascara from time to time and often nothing at all.

Does it matter?

And Sod's Law says the day you're at the yard without your usual make up is the day the new and lovely farrier/vet/saddler/whatever arrrives unexpectedly.

As some one else said, a lot of the showing ladies wear alot of make up. Especially the ladies on the heavier cobs, alot of them had used the trowel method!

I don't see the point in it.

There is always this girl at the junior BSJA shows caked with make up.

I've got one of those in my area too .

I never put it on if I'm just going to the yard but if I've been out with my friends or boyfriend or something, then go to the yard I'll obviously have it on! I have quite sensitive skin and can't wear foundation so its only ever mascara anyway.

omg didnt think i wud get so much comments on this :L Ellen whitaker is the only famous person ive seen wearing it. its just wasting make up as ur going to be sweating and it will be all rubbish after u ride :L

Yup - if I'm already wearing it i.e. going to the yard after work but I only wear eyeliner and mascara then anyway unless I'm going out or have a big meeting.

A lady I used to see a lot at shows was always immaculately made up and carried a powder compact and lippie in her jacket pocket and would touch it up before she went in the ring - she was one of those ladies who no matter what, always looked absolutely immaculate even on the hottest or wettest of days, unlike me who can very easily look like she's been dragged through a hedge backwards just getting my tack from the tackroom!

I don't have an issue with wearing it or not wearing it - its whatever makes you feel comfortable at the end of the day.

I wear it depending on how I feel I am looking. Today, I did not wear any makeup but say I felt I looked a bit like death warmed up, was a bit blotchy or had a spot then I may put some on. I mean come on, I don't want it to be a case of seeing maybe the one and only great picture of my horse jumping ruined by the fact I have some huge red spot on my face! ha ha. Sods law that.

I always wear make up so why wouldn't I when I ride? During the week I go straight from work so already have make up on and unless its chucking it down I always put it on before I go riding at the weekend. I don't 'cake' myself in it but I like wearing it. It never ends up all over my face and I never look like a clown either :D

If I don't wear mascara, I look like I have no eyelashes and people ask me if I've been crying, so I tend to put on mascara. Absolutely nothing else, ever. CBA.
