That reminds me of my Dad. On showing him my beautiful TB mare he stared at her for a minute or two looking confused, then said
'But can it pull a plough?'
He used to be a farmer many moons ago....

My farrier said him and his dad (also my farrier) were talking about what work the son had on that day, when he said Murphy his Dad said
Oh no not tha big heavy old thing!! (which his son told me!) lol poor Murphy!!
 
bless her being a monkey,he he,we had this conversation down the yard as a couple of our horses are in there 20s and we seem to let them get away with there cheekyness because of there age !!!lol

WHY?? He is probably the best thing that i have ever done...!! He wasn't expensive but at the time we didn't hav ethe money to buy anything else....and now look at us, he is wonderful, through our ups and downs, his tantrums, me throwing my toys out of the pram when everything has gone wrong....I picked myself up, got my head into gear, after his time off and these past few weeks have been our best few weeks together, we have just gelled....

my horse's always get nice comments based on looks.
last time we went to a show we were going to do a clear round, and the lady that gave us ''jumping lessons!!'' said 'here comes demolition derby' about my horse bear, he's only just turned 4 and we haven't done much jumping, he thinks the aim of the game is to knock down as many as possible!! but we only knocked down one on this paticular round!! (pi$$ed on her fireworks!!)
 
"you should see what he turns out like first before giving him a posh name" was the quote from a livery at 1st yard I was at when I was going through the process of giving Pidge a proper name (Diamond Minstrel) bearing in mind he was in need of some tlc and weight I still thought it was a tad harsh

Someone looked at Goddy when I brought him, and when I said I aimed to event, got "oh well I suppose you get allsorts eventing now"

and two "lovely ladies" stood outside his door the day after he came over from Ireland saying he had appalling conformation and how badly out of proportion he is.

PF only gets praise out here, although she's overlooked by people who don't understand about horses because to them she's smallish and just brown...
On reflection though, I don't think anyone would DARE to be rude about her to my face!
 
When i still had Harry, I was stood in the waiting area on him when i was show jumping and i heard some spoilt little girl on her little pony all covered in pink say, "Well, there isn't much competition here today is there, all ugly hairy cobs" *que her looking up and down at Harry*

Yeah, we won. she came second, and when stood in the line up getting our rosettes i said, "well done. turns out ugly hairy cobs ent that bad after all!".

It is said all too often, by basically anyone who hasnt met my lovely coloured before. Unfortunately its 100% true, and if he wasnt that way, he wouldnt be fun, and its all bout the fun with me...
 
hmmm lets see well not so much a comment but soon after I started riding Dan I commented I was going to attempt to do some dressage with him to someone fairly well respected on the island. She simply laughed and said I was mad and that he would never 'do' dressage.

Did a few elementaries (yes I know I went straight to unaffil elem so I could have brakes in a double

) in Jersey before going to England and starting schooling in earnest. Took much pleasure telling them a few years later that we were schooling advanced medium and winning unafil novices and elementaries with 70%+

My old 14h2 was always laughed at as looked like a cart horse and not a showjumper. The smile was wiped away when he won the class on most occasions as could turn on a sixpence thanks to schooling at medium.

Oh and Amber my mum's 13h3 who I stole to showjump was continually called a nutter and people would be like 'I would never ride him he is dangerous'. He was infact the softest sweetie and still is and a true schoolmaster as would be saint with a novice rider on board but would test a more experienced rider.

None of mine are convential or pretty but makes it all the more satisfying when they show(ed) up the peopl insulting them

Black hawk thats horrible! i think i would be very hurt if someone said that about my horse, as far as im concerned is you have nothing nice to say then dont say anything!!!
 
I picked mine up as a foal. She wasn't the prettiest of foals but she had good legs and a nice eye and something about her. I have since found out that a lot of local people were saying I made a big mistake and what was I thinking. Now she is 5 and 17hh and a nice looking mare, the are soo eating their words. Have been offered cash for her at a couple of shows, (she's only been to 4!) They have been saying what a good job we have been doing bringing her on, turns out there are some jealous people in our local!!

My riding instructor said that my old mare doesn't even look like a horses, charming!!!
 
I went to a dressage demo with Super when she was about 5 or 6. The woman (famous in dressage world - mother of top Irish dressage daughter and a top SJ son!) was all nice at the demo, but later called me aside and told me to give Super back to who ever sold her to us and not ask for our money back!!! Give her back as a gift!! Told us we paid too much for her and we were totally done!!

Needless to say I followed her advice - ha, ha - yeah right!

Super has also been called several names inclulding 747, tank, plod, nag (that hurts the most even though it's said as a joke!) donkey to name but a few

Was told my horse was "boring" by someone I'd let take him for a hack. Reason for boredom? He's a gent who does what he's told and doesn't climb a hedge at the sight of a tractor.
 
My YO said that Brooke was too small for me and far too young was unshod (cause I can't put shoes on her?!) and I'll never be able to cope with her. I bought her with a friend and she has turned out to be a super star! She hasn't made a single comment since about how well she's doing.

Let's not forget people - jealousy is a wonderful thing - it reminds you how brilliant your horse is!!
 
well my horse tom had about 10 weeks of recently due to a number of things but normally is very sound ect, he has talent but is sometimes difficult and 2 of my friends said he should be shot and i should get a new horse because he was holding me back!

My instructor told me to have him PTS because of his joint problem and constant lameness then claim on the insurance and get something without the probs. But I later found out she actually meant that if he was in so much pain to have him PTS. I took it the wrong way, stomped out of her lesson and did'nt speak to her for ages

I own a fat lazy cow who is a useless waste of space and money, and an 'evil' mare who gets us comments like 'stupid girl, this isn't a jump off', 'out of control, needs shooting' and 'oh look Harri seems determined to kill herself...again', the last of which was over the loudspeaker at a show

If a pony in its 20s insists 100 miles an hour is the only way to approach a jump despite nearly 10 years of attempting to school her, there's little anyone is going to do about it now, besides, she jumps clear and she wins so just let her get on with it
