My pony had laminitis mildly in june. She was box rested for a few weeks and came sound within a month and we were all very shocked with her quick recovery as this is at least the second time shes had a bout of it.

There was no real reason for the lami, we just accepted shes a welsh a and her weight had gone up a bit too much over the spring. Shes not been herself for a while shes been having days where shes almost her normal bouncy and over the top hypo self but others where shes quiet which isnt like her and its how she was when she was ill.
I decided today to start lunging her again, shes lost all her weight and muscle over the past few months so started slow and she was fine walking but as soon as she started to trot she looked lame on a back leg so i stopped her and felt her legs and they were fine but she was putting her ears back when i was touching her hips and her back and moving away. :(

I got my mum to trot her up for me, she was a bit off when trotting in a straight line but not what you would call lame she just looked stiff but when she was on a circle she was definatly lame. When i tried to turn her on a tight circle it was obviously hurting her so i was wondering if it could be her hips??

Im totally and utterly confused its never simple with this pony, shes only 7 so im hoping its not somthing like athritis .. sorry for rambling and ta in advance for any advice :)

This is one of the relatively few cases where my first port of call would be the vet. I often think that some owners call out the vet far too often but in this case.......
It does sound as if arthritis is a possibility but it could be one of several things, some better than others.
Good luck!

Are there any skid marks in the field? Do you think that she could have slipped over?

One of mine slipped (I saw it happen), she got up and was fine, but then was a little stiff/off the next day. By the following day she was 100% fine again.

I did think that could be it as shes slipped before (pulled a tendon that time ), but my field is completly dry and has been for days and i couldnt see any skid marks on the field but would there be skid marks if the field is totally dry?? Argh theres not a mark on her either :o

Did you use lunging as her first start into work again? because if she had been off for such a long time then you should really have looked at walk work, hacking for short periods of time to build her up. Lunging is pretty hard work for an unfit horse - its like you going back into the gym after a break and assuming you can work at the same level.

No ive been walking and trotting her inhand first, not alot but more often than normal just around the field/yard. I normally lunge her over a big area too so shes not keeping to a tight circle i dont just stand still and keep her going round on a 15m circle as she normally gets bored very quickly and ends up exploding into bucking and broncing :p

Would try vet but also back specialist, could her pelvis be out ? Esp if been compensating for lami !

That was my first thought, she never really stood back on her heels with her lami as she had it in one of her back hooves as well as the 2 fronts but i suppose a long time of having more weight on one back leg than the other could have affected her pelvis
