what's your favourite coat color

See, this is really interesting, because I have a very large buckskin who has put several people in comas, and since having him have discovered that most yellow horse owners are aware of the ‘yellow gene of evil’ that seems to come with the pretty colour ?

My horse of a lifetime was yellow and only somewhat evil! He was the perfect horse, but whip smart, a tendency to pull awful faces at everyone except me, and an occasional habit of undoing his lead rope and wandering away. He was a very very forward ride, and would jump anything you aimed him at.

I think, looking back, he was palomino with sooty.

My mum’s horse of a lifetime was golden palomino, also pulled evil faces and was once disqualified from a gymkhana for biting an overtaking pony on the backside. He could bronc like a rodeo pro if anything unacceptable- like being asked to walk on grass - happened but taught me to ride when he was in his thirties.

Yellows are very very special!

I have a bay with a white star and a dirty sock. He is a gorgeous rich bay, darker in winter but always shiny. Daughter has a Dales who's as black as yer hat, like black cars though she shows up dust. And 2 little grullos, the gelding was a pity buy and a real ugly duckling, he's now absolutely stunning with dapples in his coat, an eel stripe and proper stripy football socks :)

Amen to this ?

They really are & also something of an acquired taste - everyone tells me that although they love looking at my Princess they'd never have the patience for her ?

Not sure it is colour though as the biggest diva in my life was a Connemara mare rich shiny bay with one white star. She always was aware of just how beautiful she was and boy did she make the most of it

My rich shiny bay with a star is a connie :)

Dark bay with a small amount of white on the face, or bright conker bay with a white sock or two. Though these days I'm quite fond of my Arty's coat of many colours, despite not being big on spotties in general.

I genuinely like them all, but if I was pressed, I’m going to have to be boring and say bay. I love either a really dark seal brown, with their gorgeous orange noses, or a proper blood bay with lots of chrome (Mary definitely got that memo). I thought I wanted a palomino or a buckskin when she was in foal, just for the novelty factor, but then as soon as Flower popped out, I realised that what I’d gotten was even more perfect.

I also have a soft spot for roans!

Lol not heard that before they are probably all an old wife’s tale as as I’m sure you know buckskin is just bay with the dilute gene. But both buckskins I have previously known were gems , and my young girl is very loving and calm with so far no sign of the evils lol

I’m very glad to hear that there are nice yellow ponies out there ?

Mine is lovely when he wants to be, but can be seriously quirky! All the others I’ve known (palomino, dun and buckskin), and those belonging to friends and clients have all had a seriously naughty streak. It’s why I love them I think. ?

Anything with a different coloured mane and tail to its body colour. Eg, a bright bay with black points, a dark dapple grey with a white mane and tail, a dun and a palomino. Really not a fan of dark bays or even black horses. Am a bit 50/50 about chestnuts, but mine gets a flaxen mane in summer, so I do like him!
