I was knocking around in the 60's and horse welfare has moved on thankfully. Anyone remember Fistula Withers ? Now quite a rarity but used to be seen on hunting yards. Horses with colic, navicular etc were more likely to be shot than rehabilitated and horses over 20 yrs still in work were an exception.
Also remember bad saddle sores ?
Wasn't better horse care in the good old days, just different.
Thankfully never come across fistulas withers - due to different saddles now most probably - wonder I didn't get a fistulas arse riding in some of the older ones though
