I have printed out the BD forms, but I was wondering when the right time is to affiliate? I have a 5 rising 6 year old mare who has been in work for just over five months. She has been to two preliminary competitions unaffiliated, one of which she did ok in (59.16%) and then this weekend's where she qualified for the Prestige Dressage Championship with the highest mark of 67.72% out of 32 horses.

I have two more tests on Wednesday night unaffiliated, but I am starting to think about affiliation so I have something to work towards with her. I had decided that if she got over 65% I would affiliate her this summer, but if she was in the low sixties then I would leave it until the end of the year.

When did everyone else affiiate their horses? (what age, level etc etc)

i think you should definately affliate her, im sure she is more than ready. And you can start at prelim anyways, qualify her for the Petplan Prelim Areas at least, so then she will get some area festival experience aswell. (you only need two scores of 60% and over to qualify). x

Really?

Do you need to plait up at affiiated? I have absolutely no clue of how to plait

I have only just managed to tie a stock properly

I affliatde my previous horse as we were had him to sell when i went to uni, he did average out dressage, scoring low to mid 60's. We affliated him and took him to Novice Area festivals, and was placed at every competition we went to.

I am now about to send the forms off to affliate Honey as i want more consistant judging. She is doing some lovely work but are marks are to erractic and judges are making some odd choices.
Competitons are better run and tend to be quieter!

I think if you are happy competing then just affliate, am sure you will do well, especially after this weekends results

Thanks lizzie_liz... it is so daunting making the decision to affiliate I think. More because I have it in my head that there are some very good horses once you get to affiliated that all go correctly and get in the high sixties. But having looked at some past results from one venue in my area, I am beginning to realise that perhaps I have put too much emphasis on this as there are such a broad spectrum of results.

Brill results

well as you know I am in the same boat but think I may just affiliate and have done with it. Although at the moment the RC want me in the Prelim team so if I affiliate and gain points (im dreaming lol) then i wouldnt be able to...hmmmm

I'm glad someone else is in the same boat as me!

I need to find out whether I can still do the Championships if I affiliate as it is an unaffiliated championships I think.

Don't worry they are not all big warmbloods, i saw a huge range of horses competing.
Mine are IDxTB, the first one i was affliated liked to be on the forehand but he still did well.

lol, well according to my last post never! lol but that was the drama queen in me! lol, but they are def not all warmbloods, and if you feel ready, go for it, but remember to report and take pics!!!! lol

I think given your result the other day go ahead and affiliate. i affiliated my mare already having never done any unaff comps!!

I think the Prestige Champs have taken over from the Derby House ones, and in the prelim championships last year, you couldnt do the prelim if you had 1 point! I am sure you are both more than ready, though!

Thanks so much everyone... BD forms are filled out, but the vet has been out because she had a swelling near her tendon this morning. She is not lame on it, and vet thinks it could be just a bang, but because of the lympangitis she had suffered from there is a lot of fluid around the area so he has put her on diaretics to reduce the swelling and wants to see her leg again on Thursday

He has told me to keep riding her and do the competition on Wednesday night as long as she stays sound... So hopefully he's not too concerned that it's something like her tendon!

BD application is going off first thing tomorrow morning though, no more holding back!
